The one thing above everything else that makes America great is that tremendous appeal of opportunity which this country offers to call out from every individual the best work that is in him. The boy who starts out blessed with parents who can teach him the im- portance of industry has a source of wealth and happiness which nothing can take away from him. When a boy is growing, both mentally and physic- ally, he is very apt not to realize the satisfaction of being able to do one thing well, and many drift from one thing to another without learning that one fundamental truth. Every young man should have some responsibility as early in life as pos- sible, and he should be taught the wonderful truth of Disraeli ' s comment that, The secret of success is constancy of purpose.
