Homecoming is a big event each year. The flowerbeds are trimmed and the lawns groomed as many alumni return and students enjoy this weekend. There are many events planned. The homecoming parade, which consists of the band. majorettes and an array of floats and trucks decorated by the greeks and other organizations on campus, rolls down main street. The floats that appear in the parade are the result of many hours of work and diligent planning. Most are made of tis- sue paper and wire fencing. Trucks and cars are decorated with banners and signs. all giving the Bears support in the upcoming football game. Before the game the campus votes for those candidates up for Homecoming king and queen. This years king and queen were Bob Peterson and Jane Calland. They were announced during halftime at the game and giv- en the traditional crown and roses. The football game was attended by many students giving their support to the football team. Afterwards there was the homecoming dance or, for those in a fraternity or sorority, a party. Many alumni come back for this weekend. They stroll around campus, reliving memories of their years spent here. Many met with friends they have not seen since graduation and. for the weekend, made up for lost time. WV Y i.. Halloween tricksters come in ev- ery shape and size. From floundering band directors to the little ones who believe it all. they only come out on one particular night. When they do it af' could be anything from Mickey Mouse asking for handouts to an evil and mysterious midnight party open only to ghouls and fiends. A strange phenomenon happens to people at ONU around Halloween time. They mysteriously grow ears and fuzzy tails, many appear wearing faces of green or rosy cheeks. Some go as far to go undercover in a borrowed sheet. Each hall competed for the best decorated wing. Suddenly the lights are dimmed and bats plus other Halloween creatures hang from the ceilings. Doors are decorated and the con- test begins. The mood was set, as children from the Ada community went trick or treating, asking for goodies the students provided. 16 . -.
