The events during the dedication of Northern ' s new law facility added a significant precedent to ONU’S historical past. A dedication address by Associate justice of the Supreme Court Harry A Blackman and a vocal challenge to make the Pettit of Law the best in the country by Dean Squilante, marked day long events for the new $1.3 million complex. Harry A. Blackman, associate |ustice of the United States Supreme Court, reflected on Northern ' s college of law and its objectives during his presentation to an audience of 750 people. He also provided several guidelines for young lawyers to follow. Following lustice Blackman ' s speech. President Samuel Meyer presented honorary degrees to seven people, including four graduates of Northern ' s college of law. Those graduates receiving the honorary degrees were: Cecil E. Edwards ' 27, municiple |udge in Dayton for 18 years and common pleas judge for six years; Adrian W. Maher ' 26, practicing attorney in Bridgeport, Conn, since 1928; Elaine M Mayhew ’43, Knox County probate and juvenile |udge for three six-year terms and now a part-time practitioner in Mount Vernonn. and Thomas ) Parrino ' 42, judge of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court since 1959. In addition, lustice Blackman, lustice C. William O ' Neill and Dr. Armann Snaevarr also received honor¬ ary degrees from Ohio Northern. The new law building is the second one erected at ONU, the first being completed in 1923. Included in the new one- story facility are library space for 100,000 volumes, a moot courtroom, three classrooms, two seminar rooms, faculty offi¬ ces and a faculty library. 20 21 22 23 Homecoming 1973 Anticipation pervaded McIntosh Center Tuesday evening, October 9, as homecoming candidates proclaimed themselves to the student body. Individual skits, including gypsies, play¬ boy bunnies, a fairy godmother, and a hard hat crew were presented to creatively display each candidates credentials. The following day voting for the king and queen was held. That night the homecoming committee and ONU cheerleaders led a torch light parade, which wound its way around campus. The parade ended behind the Meyer Hall of Science where all of the torches were used to start the bonfire. There the anxious crowd learned that lane Rucker, CBOG, and Don Howard, Sigma Pi, would reign as ONU ' s royalty for 1973-1974. Friday saw an afternoon of contests—the first one between freshman and sophomores in the traditional flag pole rush The freshmen managed to capture the beanie from the top of the greased flagpole, but not in the record time of the pre¬ vious class. Then the pushmobile raced found Alpha Omicron Pi, Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Sigma Phi and Sigma Phi Epsilon coming in with prizes. Reigning over homecoming activities along with lane and Don were: Patti Payne, Alpha Omicron Pi; Kathi Flanagan, Alpha Xi Delta; |an Tuttman, Zeta Tau Alpha; |ill Wilson, Delta Zeta; Cheryl Morrison, Clark Hall; Cindy Hostetler, College of Pharmacy; Chris Dell ' arco, Lima Hall; Bob Manley, Delta Sigma Phi; Don Rankin, Kappa Psi; Ron Van Dyne, Alpha Sigma Phi; |ohn Davis, Phi Mu Delta; Steve Funk, Sigma Phi Epsilon; Dave Brudapest, College of Pharmacy; Ray Wolf, Phi Kappa Theta; Mike Keener, Theta Chi; and Mike Trotta, independent. 25 Homecoming Entertainment McCrary, a lively rock group; and Second City, an amusing improvisational group; plus candlelit tables, replaced the usual salad bars and soft drink dispensers to give McIntosh Center’s cafeteria a nightclub appearance. McCrary, a young black group of three brothers and two sisters, played an upbeat sound, blending “a little bit of soul” with a collective faith in the spiritual power of music. Second City presented a series of very funny skits which left the audience demanding more when they left the stage. To the delight of everyone, they came back on stage and did a few more improvisations. 26 27 Building to an Evening of Fun Invading Ada, Ohio, and the peaceful Ohio Northern campus Saturday morning October 12, 1973, was a huge, fifteen-foot robot. Rather than leaving behind a path of destruction, the giant creature captured the grand sweepstakes homecoming decorations award for the brothers of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Their immense creation enabled the Del¬ tas to maintain their winning ways for the third consecutive year. Sigma Phi Epsilon swept into first place with a polar-bear- manned rocketship, while the Phi Mu Deltas captured second prize with their satellite, spaceman and rocketship. Zeta Tau Alpha sorority placed third with Kappa Psi frater¬ nity moving in fourth place in the float competition. No sooner had the judging ended when the afternoon deluge, so typical of Ada, commenced putting a definite damper on the day ' s activities. Despite the inclement weather, the football stands rapidly filled with ONU fans wishfully anticipating a victory. Hopeful dreams, however, were termi¬ nated with a 34 to 0 loss to Hillsdale. 28 29 The Many Moods of Richard Harris BUTTERFIdES ARE FREE Cast Don Baker.Brett Brown (ill Benson.Maggie Yount Mrs. Baker.Deborah Link Ralph Austin.Don Kahler 33 Winter in Ada — A Collage of Freezing Rains, Hard-Hitting Snowballs, and Snow Angels Despite class rank, year and age, everyone seems to be just a kid at heart in the winter. Or at least, that is the way it appeared on campus this year. Besides the freezing rains and strong winds typical of Ada ' s winters, there was hard packing snow perfect for snowballs. Walking to classes became somewhat of a risk with a friend lurking around a corner with a mitten full of ammunition. It was not uncommon to see students romping in the soccer field making angels in the snow. And Niagara Falls seemed to flow out of many a shoe that had tried to make its way across campus during the spring thaws. 34 wmW H ■ W _ ' J L a l_1 , i r 1 - • 1 | • r Buddy Miles Flying snowballs and shouts among friends filled the air January 18 as stu¬ dents crowed at the door of Taft Gym anxiously awaiting their opening for the Buddy Miles-Sandy Nassan concert. Sev¬ eral hours later, a quite delayed Miles held up by poor weather conditions, ran out on stage to the relief of a rather frustrated audience which had paid its money to see him hours before. While most campus concerts this year were open to Celeberty Series members, the Buddy Miles concert was opened up to those purchasing tickets at the door in hopes of getting an idea of how such a set-up might work. With outside tickets sold, Celeberty Series could afford a wider range of artists at Northern next year. 36 National Shakespeare Company Whether it be performed in the Shakespeare’s Globe Theater back around 1699 or O.N.U. ' s Lehr Auditorium on January21,1974, “Julius Caesar ’ remains a dynamic tragedy. The moral and ethical problems which pla¬ gued the inhabitants of Rome are still being debated among citizens of the world today. Emphasizing the perennial importance of the drama and the similarities between the problems then and now, the National Shakespeare Company presented “Julius Caesar” in a modern setting utilizing slides and films. Founded in 1963, the company of actors makes annual tours throughout the United St ates and Canada. Brought to Ohio Northern students by the Artist Series, this con¬ temporary production proved that “Julius Caesar ’ could really be made more alive than it had ever appeared in the literature books. 37 GLASS nN MENAGERIE N ' by TENNESSEE WILLIAMS CAST Amanda Wingfield — Mary Ann Caldwell Laura Wingfield — Leesa Haines Tom Wingfield — Dan Kahler Jim O ' Connor - Jeff Hisem Dr. David Stevens — Director Ward Whiting — Technical Director Designer Michael Berg - Ass ' t Technical Director Costumer 39 r Law School Activities From the law building dedication, the Pettit Col¬ lege of Law had a busy year. With a new dean at the helm, the college launched a series of seminars, including the first interdisciplinary institute on drugs and law; scholar¬ ships in memory of the late Dean Claude W. Pettit, for whom the college has been named, and in memory of Murray Flom, an ONU law student killed during the year; in addition to the Law Review, Moot Court team, The Writ, The First Amendment and SBA activities. Associate Professor William Peppier was named to a municipal judgeship at Fostoria, Ohio. 40 41 The New World Consort Believing that early music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance was not intended to lie forgotten and out¬ dated on the shelves, The New World Concort took it out and dusted it off in concert at Ohio Northern Univer¬ sity. Rosemarie Caminitti, Mary Ann Ballard, Robert Cow¬ ard, and William Mount performed several melodies from the past on March 6, 1974. The ensemble comprised of soprano and baritone voices along with their musical instruments has toured throughout France as well as the United States. Black Jack, Roulette Yoursat Monte Carlo Students ambling through Northern ' s McIntosh Center February 9, 1974 could not help noticing a change of scenery. Replacing the chairs in the Activities Room were black jack tables and wheels of fortune encouraging passers-by to stop and try their luck. Thus, Monte Carlo Night brought to the university a festive air with its gambling cassino and dance band, T. S. Elliot. r Campus Chest “Step right up and pin the tail on the bunny.” “One ticket buys you three whipped cream pies to throw.” .Excuse me, would you like your shoes shined, Sir?” With this, the 1974 Campus Chest and Auction sporting bright, colorful booths, prospective king and queen can¬ didates, and raffled prizes, was finally underway. Cap¬ tives’ distressful screams and barkers’ advertising cries drifted through McIntosh Center as the AOPi ' s made their rounds capturing innocent bystanders to fill their jail; Kappa Psi’s advertised their pie-throw booth; and PMD ' s lured guys to pin tails on their bunnies (alias borrowed sorority girls). Zeta shoe shines and DZ back rubs also pampered the males taking in the carnival. Receiving the trophies for collecting the most tickets were the Theta Chi’s and Alpha Xi Delta’s. Post-carnival activities included an old-fashioned auc¬ tion in Taft Gymnasium. However, instead of the usual antique wall hangings, lists of Greek and independent sponsored parties ranging from ice cream socials to Pol¬ ish weddings were presented to bid on. 45 I Bits of India Germany, England Right Here in Ada Mclntoch Center wore the face of an international market on Friday, March 15, 1974. International Week at Northern fea¬ tured films about everything from Ger¬ man scientists to Jane Eyre, shown throughout the week. Displaying singing, dancing, and music from other cultures, the Talent Show provided an entertaining Wednesday evening. International Day on Friday had 24 nations represented in booth exhibits in the McIntosh lobby. Colorful vases, cloths, and other items on sale gave the lobby the look of a quaint market-place. As a break from the usual, Slaters turned the cafeteria into a smor¬ gasbord serving entrees from ten different countries. Climaxing a week of foreign culture, dinner was followed by India’s Mrs. Vimala Nagaraja sitar program, danc¬ ing, and a social hour. i I 4 HUHGMtr Ingest, Digest, Feedback Reading, digesting, and learning material in order to feed it back on the upcoming exam seems to trans¬ form college students into comput¬ ers. Some are better suited to this mechanical occupation than others as illustrated in Northern ' s second annual January “Trivia Bowl. Judged on their abilities to store and categorize all types of miscellanea, the teams were required to produce the correct answer when asked questions about anything from fa¬ mous dictators to mountain ranges. Winning team captain, Jim Ander¬ son, and his teammates apparently had the edge on their opponents finishing with a score of 29 to 27. 47 Student Life $ i on New Roles Song recitals, Talent Shows, and Olym¬ pic games all brought a kaleidescope cf activities to campus during Greek Week, March 25-29. Crowned Monday night to reign throughout the week was Alpha Xi Delta’s Queen Lynn Judge, her court of Janie Whyte, Kathy Stumpp, and Donna Bumpus, and Sigma Pi KingAI Kappers. Concert Singers, Roller Derby Stars, Gymnasts — Greeks Take V r .11 University Singers got a glimpse of some potential competition Tuesday night as the Greeks tried their luck in the musical scene with Greek Sing. Screaming teeny hoppers, complete with bobby soxs and pony-tails, bombarded the stage from the ballroom stairs to perform the “Tele¬ phone Hour” from the movie, ”Bye Bye Birdie.” Abandoning, for a moment, the college dress for red lipstick and rolled jeans, the Alpha Xi ' s took first place for the second year in a row in the original category. Following second were the Al¬ pha Sigma Phi’s with their I ' d like to teach the world to streak.” A medley of borrowed Association hits captured first t place in serious competition for the AOP ' s while ”He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” and their sweetheart song earned second place serious for the Theta Chi’s. Nostalgic ’’Porgy and Bess” visited Northern Wednesday night as Harly Green and Denise Luke took first place in the Phi Mu Delta’s Talent Show. Despite cloudy skies and the threat of rain, prospective Roller Derby stars insist¬ ed on displaying any fortitude or talent in a skate-off around the science complex mall Friday afternoon. A miniature inter¬ national Olymics, Saturday morning ' s Sig Olympics brought out delegates from the nine fraternities and four sororities. Win¬ ning the most points overall for crab¬ walking, chugging, egg tossing, etc., were the Sig Ep’s in first place, the PMD ' s second, and the DZ ' s in third position. Thus with all the Greek Week activities, the week gave the Greeks a chance to get together for some heated competition and just plain fun. 52 Childish grins and giggles expressed amusement with the story of a Prioress’ stolen donkey and the contriving women who try to latch on to the thieves. Eager to entertain a variety of audiences, ONU ' s Speech and Theater Department took a break from their routine perform¬ ances to present The Dancing Donkey” free of charge to the public on March 23, 1974. Catering to the younger set were the Children ' s Theater’s actors and ac¬ tresses, Debbie Link as the Prioress, Loyal Charles as the donkey, Richard Kahler and Andy Stick as the rascals, and Mary Ann Caldwell and Susan Sauls playing the sisters. Sporting gaily colored costumes, the theater group spent from March 12 through May 7 touring elementary schools within reasonable distdnce from Ada to give as many children as possible the change to see a live play. 54 55 v - Sr HB — — T“ ' — FT . 1 fmw H I 58 Folk Music — something different, something refreshing One of the most dynamic con¬ certs at ONU this year proved to be Peter Yarrow formerly of Peter, Paul, and Mary. Perhaps the thing that most deemed him dynamic was his style - his ability to remain basically folk with a sampling of everything from the soft touch of love ballads to the nostalgia of rock and roll. Judging from the facial expressions of the crowds filling up every inch of McIntosh ' s main floor and overflowing halfway up the ball¬ room stairs he also rated high in terms of audience participation. A smile, a cheer, a laugh, and a tear or two — Peter Yarrow left an impres¬ sion as a unique artist apart from the usual. Accompanying him on h ' is April first appearance, was JohnBas- sette, a fellow folksinger touring the Cleveland area. 60 mil L VII W m V pH P 0 f . iiii 1 nt S by William Shakespoarei APRIL 2526-27 LEHR AUDITORIUM ftlSP.M James Lemonedes William Marshall Michael Powell Nancy Hassell Andy Granger Leesa Haines Frank Sobkowiak Richard Kohler Mary Ann Caldwell Michael Berg Don Kahler Ray Wolf Michael Powell Maggi Yount Timothy Schamaun Andy Steck Orsino Valentine Sea captain Viola Sir Toby Belch Maria Sir Andrew Aguecheek Feste Olivia Malvolio Sebastian Antonio Fabian Attendent Officer Priest rate . Uninhibited by his brother, James, Taylor is very much a unique artist in his own right. His insightful songs reflect the dynamic qualities of his personality along with his talent. Just as a performer must possess a good voice and the ability to play an instrument, Taylor shows that an exceptional artist utilizes his abilities to laugh, to communicate, to entertain. Opening the program was Michael Stanley, who had recently appeared on Don Kershner ' s - Rock Concert. 65 Sunshine Weekend Sunshine Weekend finally arrived, and for once, the weather decided to cooper¬ ate! Saturday and Sunday ' s inviting sun seemed to coax much student en¬ thusiasm. Sliding into the weekend ' s ac¬ tivities, those participating in Friday after¬ noon ' s mud bowl were in excellent posi¬ tion to contend the leading detergent ' s promises. The soccer field, familiarly rec¬ ognized by its swam-like appearance, was made even messier thanks to Ada ' s fire crew in order to promote a more exciting water balloon race, wheelbarrow race, greased pole pillow fight, and the 64th annual tug-of-war. Even though chilly temperatures chased jiving couples into McIntosh Center, Friday night’s street dance wit¬ nessed an excited crowd. “The Kidds” provided the mu¬ sic. All night flicks challenged even the insomniacs equipped with cushions and blankets while those who did manage to make it through the night wide-eyed were greeted Saturday morning by their favorite cartoon char¬ acters. Saturday afternoon Slaters moved aside the salad bars to make room for the bingo games, and Saturday evening’s Showcase presented two bands, “Smokey Roe and “Auburn.” Hard-packed butter pecan ice cream and a Wilmingten barber shop quartet brought to campus a touch of nos¬ talgia Sunday afternoon. Capping a weekend of com¬ petition and entertainment, was Sunday evening’s folk duo, Edmunds and Curly. 68 Bf ' d v- s 4 v «, £n f 1 cim XjK T A X it J fM f M -.. A S -.si. Jy f i _ 70 Athletics Football Scores Only Two Victories The Polar Bear football team, battling the hard¬ ship of playing it’s first three games on the road, just could not get started in 1973. Finding it tougher each week to get up for a game, the Bears dropped their first six games before finally tasting victory against archrival Bluffton on October 27. Lack of an offensive attack plagued the team throughout most of the season. The Bears rushing game fell off progressively as the season went on. Lack of offense combined with defensive mistakes, along with a lack of enthusiasm led to the team’s dismal record of 2-7, the worst in sixteen years. Despite a very disappointing season for the team, the year was not a complete failure for some of the Polar Bears. Two ONU seniors received post season honors for their 1973 performances. Dan Gueth, split end from Greenville, Ohio and Scott Bodie, middle guard from Fostoria, Ohio received OAC honorable mention. Bodie was also named to the West team for the All Ohio Shrine Bowl game, and played with some of the top college seniors in the state 74 ' 5 1 f JWI _ - 1 Hr .1 ft | H 1 j m L 1, ? •„ I 76 Mount Union, 21 ONU 17 What was thought to be one of the best offensive teams in over a decade of ONU football made believers out of the observers during the first half of the season opener at Alliance. The Bears rolled to a 17-0 halftime lead, piling up over 300 yards offense along the way. Jeff Gathright, a freshman from Youngstown, Ohio, high¬ lighted play catching a 67 yard touchdown pass of quar¬ terback John Smith in the opening moments of the game. But when Mount Union hit paydirt late in the third quarter, momentum joined their ranks and sparked them to two more quick TD ' s. Wooster 23, ONU 6 Another quick touchdown on the first series, a 57 yard run by ONU ' s Don Thomas, proved to be the Bear ' s last score for a long time to come. Wooster brought the ONU offense to a screeching halt and scored in every quarter for the 23-6 win. Kalamazoo 11, ONU 0 The Hornets further deflated Northern spirits with this shutout. Busting through the ONU defense for eight points in the first quarter, Kalamazoo needed only a fourth quarter field goal for a clear margin of victory as the ONU offense stopped dead in its tracks continued a scoring drought. Otterbein 24, ONU 0 The joy of finally playing at home and before friendly crowds proved no help to the Polar Beats as the visiting team extended the ONU scoreless and losing streak. Showing virtually no sign of confidence, the Bear offense could muster up only 135 yards, penetrating Otterbein territory once getting only to the 40 yard line. Hillsdale 34, ONU 0 Hillsdale combined with a constant deluge of cold rainy weather to put a damper on Homecoming 1973. A steady downpour wiped out all pre-game and halftime ceremonies and held the crowd to only a few hundred spectators, while on the field the Chargers coasted to an easy win while stagnating ONU ' s offense once again as the Bears were shutout for the third straight time. Hill¬ sdale crushed the ONU defense to produce a 22-0 half¬ time lead and added two more tallies in the second half. The Bear offense was held to 11 yards passing and 65 yards on the ground. Ashland 37, ONU 8 The Eagles gave their homecoming crowd a better show with two first quarter touchdowns and scored in every other quarter, handing the Bears their sixth loss in a row. However, the game marked the beginning of the end of a long slump for the team as they ground out 200 yards offense even though the scoreboard showed only 8 points for the effort. ONU 14, Bluffton 0 With a little confidence returned to the offense, victory number one finally came in this game with visiting Bluffton. The Bears won on two second half touchdowns by Dean Dreher w hich helped him set a new career scoring record of 144 points. The win was meaningful because it was the last scheduled meeting in football between these two old rivals. Defiance 39, ONU 14 The Polar Bears coming off their first victory regressed back to their losing ways as Northern suffered its seventh loss of the season. The enthusiasm of the week before was quickly extinguished as Defiance took control. ONU 24, Findlay 6 The Polar Bears ended a very embarrassing season on a happy note with a 24-6 win over Findlay College. The long season scoring drought finally ended in this season finale. 77 Basketball 18-7 A thrilling 53-49 victory over nationally, ranked Wittenburg University and the playing of the final intercollegiate basketball game in Taft gymnasium were just two of the many highlights of Ohio Northern’s highly successful basketball season. The victory of Wittenburg was one of many over Ohio Athletic Conference teams. The Polar Bears finished regular season play with a phenomenal 16- 5 record. They were 10-3 in their first season in the conference. Those three losses were to Marietta, Muskingum and Capital. Under second year coach Gale Daugherty, the Bears opened in grand style by reeling off six straight victories, including triumphs over two of the conference pre-season favorites, Mount Union and Otterbein. In addition to an outstanding conference record, Northern added wins in non league games against Findlay, Bluffton, Albion, Adrian, Marian, and Ferris State. But two others, Calvin College of Michigan and Defiance College, bested the Bears. Calvin’s win came in the first round of the Marshall Tournament over Christmas. The team went on to win the cham¬ pionship, replacing defending champ Ohio North¬ ern. Ferris State provided the opposition February 16 when Taft Gymnasium was retired. A forty-four year tradition ended before a packed house. In fact there was not even standing room for any home game this year. During regular season play, the Polar Bears aver¬ aged only 60.5 points a game. But under Daugherty, Northern plays ball control basketball resulting in the opposition averaging just 55.8 points a game. That figure ranked the Bears as one of the top three defensive teams in the nation. For shooting per¬ centages, Northern ranked third in the OAC in field goal shooting with 48 percent. From the free throw line they were second at 75 percent. Many games were won by outstanding foul shooting this year. The Polar Bears entered post season play for the first time since 1969 with a 16-5 record. Drawing a bye in first round action of the Northern Division play at Baldwin-Wallace, by virtue of having the best record in that division, the Bears opened the OAC tournament by winning over Kenyon 58-47. Northern then succeeded in knocking off Oberlin 65-54 before falling to powerful Wittenburg 62-48 in the finals. The pain of losing the Ohio Conference cham¬ pionship was eased somewhat by an at large bid to the NCAA Small College Tournament. However the high spirits of the team were quickly dampened somewhat as the Bears closed a highly successful season on the losing note to Hiram College, 56-50. 78 1 . unn HE? h H ] ! m u ' a r n ' S The Season at a Glance ONU 65, Wooster 53 Defiance 62, ONU 54 ONU 76, Otterbein 66 ONU 60, Kenyon 58 ONU 66, Ohio Wesleyan 52 ONU 53, Wittenburg49 ONU 63, Oberlin 45 ONU 54, Baldwin-Wallace 51 ONU 65, Mt. In tournament play, they lost the game to Ashland and then beat Wittenburg and St. Joseph before losing in consolation finals to Dayton. 82 Women ' s Volleyball 10-3 Northern ' s volleyballers showed marked improvement while running up a phenomenal season record of 10-3 in a year which has produced much success for most of the intercollegiate sports that the Polar Bears participate in. Among Northern’s victims were Ohio Conference foes: Denison, Oberlin, Wittenburg, Ohio Wesleyan and Otterbein. The Polar Bears finished fourth in their initial OAC appearance, trailing third place Heidelburg by just seven points. Mount Union won the team title while Baldwin-Wallace was a distant second. Underclassmen have been outstanding for the Bears. Steve Duke, a freshman from Dayton, Ohio ran up a 15-6 record during the season. Steve Hohl, another freshman from Dayton, won the 126 pound championship at the post-season OAC meet at Mount Union. Getting into the finals via two lop¬ sided victories, Hohl won the title with a 10-8 decision over defending champ Ken Williams of Mount Union. He carried a 17-2 record into the NCAA tournament at Wilkes College in Wilkes- Barre, Pennsylvania. Also making the trip to Wilkes was Tim Drake at 118 pounds, Rudy Rivera at 158 pounds, JimBayless at 167 pounds, Ken Hansen at 177 pounds, and Scott Bodie at heavyweight. The bears compiled a 20-6 record while winning 13 straight at one point. With the baseball team in the Ohio Athletic Confer¬ ence for the first time since 1949, the team clinched the northern division title with a 12-1 divisional record. Three NCAA division III leaders were on the team. Steve Sharp, a freshman centerfielder, had 27 stolen bases to lead the nation while Bill Lang, a junior catcher, was among the leaders in RBIswith 31. Right-handed pitcher, Ed Micklavcic, was among leaders with a 1.65 ERA and a 7-1 record. Going into NCAA play-offs, Northern had a fine overall batting average of .270 in comparison to the opposition batting average of .205. The Bear pitching staff owned a sparkling 2.67 ERA. mtm H r! The year started off great with Jill Wilson representing the DZ’s on the Homecoming Court. Instead of the tradition¬ al Homecoming Float the DZ’s decided to “Fancy a Future” for a needy family by donating blood in their name and supplying them with food for the winter. The active DZ’s participated in many campus activities. Even though they had many parties they still managed to have the best overall grades winter quarter. They bounded their way to two second places at intramural basketball and volleyball. The DZ’s got into the “Spring” of things by electing Jim Jonestheir new sweetheart at their formal which was held in Sidney, Ohio. Greek Week was a real roar as Kathie Stumpp was elected Sophomore attendant. Winning Sig Olympics and the Sig Ep Egg Toss brought the DZ ' s an overall 3rd place trophy for the week’s activities. 1 O ' Krutny, 31. Chuck Daum, 32. Phil Ruffini, 33. Greg Korte, 34.
