Udy. Through his efforts, the religious life of the campus has become more meaningful and realistic. During his two years at Ohio Northern, Dr. Udy has become one of the most dominentyspokesmen and organizers of student life. 4 These Were The Mclntosh Years 7949-65 Commencement 7 Ml , ' 'U In o ,.' 51 P IL Preszdent F. FRANK BRINGLE MCINTOSH President of the University PRESIDENT President McIntosh was elected president of Ohio Northern in 1949 after an illustrious background which included degrees from DePauw University, Boston University, and Rio Grande College. Under his capable guidance, Ohio Northern has seen tifteen prosperous years of development and growth, both physically and in academic standing. In keeping with the friendly atmosphere on campus, Dr. McIntosh is always ready with a cheerful smile and hello as he crosses the campus. A great deal of credit must be bestowed upon Dr. McIntosh for his fine leadership in getting ONU's recent development plan off the ground. The opening, last January, of the Univer- sity Union marks the culmination of a dream of ten years? 16 VICE PRESIDENT President Mclntosh, with the able assistance of Vice-Presi- dent Eakin, strives to uphold the aims and purposes of Ohio Northern University: to graduate students imbued with Chris- tian ideals, accomplished in scholastic achievement, inspired with a desire to contribute to the good of mankind, and com- mitted to a way of life that will result in a maximum of per- sonal and social worth. LANDRY To the casual reader a yearbook is often simply an album of pictures with accompanying identi- fications and enough written text to fill up the re- maining holes on the pages. Merely ink on paper . . . though nice to own and enjoy. But to the staff and the adviser the yearbook means much more. For yearbook work comprises a multitude of details: Layout, Art, Photography, Copy, Typography, Covers and Binding Knot to mention the small detail of money-raisingj. Highly technical and often confusing, these details are at the very least time-consuming and a source of anxiety to a staff unless the publisher's repre- sentative is company-trained to give needed help and suggestions. All representatives for Wm. J. Keller Inc. are skilled in the many facets of yearbook work, hav- ing at their tinger-tips the answers to yearbook problems as well as a multitude of ideas for new graphic arts special effects, to enable the staff to produce a yearbook that is different and attractive. Your Keller salesman is more than a technical ad- viser, he is a clearing-house of yearbook ideas. Wm. J. Keller Inc. Rushing, pledging, and initiation of members are supervised by the council. The organization also attempts to maintain friendly interfraternity relationships, to further scholarship and co-operation with the college administration, and acts as a forum for discussion of problems of interest to the sororities. -I C77 -3:52, Seated: Sondra Stryker, President, Mary Ann Krieger, Kathy Kleifeld, Pat Patterson, Pat Davis. Standing: Sharon Lawrence, Alice Niehausmyer, Judy Bayer, Loretta Forney. 168 INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL The lnterfraternity Council of Ohio Northern University is composed of two members from each of the nine social fraternities. The main purpose of this organization is to discuss and decide the broad problems and issues that are common to all. ln this way harmony and cooperation are promoted within the entire fraternity system. One of the most important functions of the body is the governing and regulation of rush and pledging. The system allows the rushee time to select the men he wants to associate with and the fraternity to take a better look at the rushee. Thus the Council is based on cooperation and democracy, the two cardinal principles of the American way of life. 1. Aside from planning a new house, the brothers still found time to attend the National Convocation to win the Attendance Plaque and receive the award for Outstanding Chapter in the Gamma Province. The purpose of establishing and maintaining a brotherhood is well exemplified as Jim Ruef, a law student, is serving as counselor in residenceg and Dr. Joe Uvegeus returned to join the faculty and serve as faculty advisor along with Prof. Richard Kain, Chairman of the Industrial Arts Department. 184 BROTHERS Seated: James L. On the Ohio Northern campus, Theta Chi was established as a colony on February 20, 1965. It is the newest fraternity to come to the campus in 23 years. Nationally, Theta Chi has 132 chapters with currently 11 colonies, such as the one here at Northern, in the process of applying for a national charter. The watchword of Theta Chi, Alma Mater first and Theta Chi for the Alma Mater, sums up the primary objectives of Theta Chi Fraternity. The Fraternity's long-standing policy of maintaining a balance between scholastic attainments and campus activities has received the endorsement of educators, parents, and under- graduates alike. Of special interest this year was the induction banquet, honoring our installation as a colony on the Ohio Northern campus. Present, in addition to our own brothers, were representatives from Bowling Green State University, Miami Uni- versity and Ohio State University, presidents of all the other social fraternities on the campus, several Theta Chi National Executive Officers, and distinguished ad- ministrative and faculty representatives. This year is one of growth for the Theta Chi Colony here at Ohio Northern University. Every activity is planned and directed toward our immediate goal, that of obtaining a National Charter in 1966. 186 BROTHERS Seated: Richard King, Secretary, Jerry Franz, Vice-president: Larry Cannon, Presidentg Den- nis White, Marshal: Bob Storch, Treasurer. Northern's basketball team under the direction of Larry Michael in his first year as head coach, finished in the 64-65 season with an 8-16 record for their first losing season in six years. The small Bears, although losing, had several high- lights throughout the year. In the second game of the season, ONU set a Taft Gymnasium floor record for the most points scored in one game when they defeated Aquinas, 123-90. The second bright spot was the opening game of the First Annual ONU Invitational Tourney when the Bears upset Muskingum of the Ohio Conference, 60- 57. ln the first game of the Findlay Invitational Classic, ONU upset undefeated Cedarville, 88-64. Findlay won the tournament by beating the Bears in the finals, 87- 84. Another highlight was the 51-50 victory for North- ern over highly ranked Ashland. The biggest disappointment of the season was the five losses suffered from Bluffton and Findlay. Bluffton defeated the Bears twice, 85-83 and 80-77, Findlay defeated the Bears three times, 87-84, 84-83, and 70- 68.
