DEDICATION Dr. A. Louise Hastings became a member cf the faculty at ONU in 1957, bringing with her a wide variety of experiences in the literary field. She obtained her A.B., M.A., and Ph.D. in English at Indiana University, where she had also, been an instructor in composition and literature survey. Aside from various teaching positions she has held. Dr. Hastings has spent 7 years writing and editing for newspapers, 3 years in the advertising department of Harvard University Press, and 5 years doing research at Harvard in American Literature with a fellowship from the American Philosophical Society. As an undergraduate. Dr. Hastings was a member cf a literary club called Vagabonds which founded the literary magazine The Vaga¬ bond, which was later called the Folio, and is still published today. She has also published articles in The New England Quarterly, The Bulletin of School and Education and The Emerson Society Quarterly. Here on campus, Dr. Hastings has a busy schedule, teaching ad¬ vanced English courses, such as Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Milton, as well as American literature and English composition. She has been the force behind many traditional “Shakespeare Nights” and deserves much credit for this year’s fine celebration of “The Bard’s 400th.” Dr. Hasting’s sparkling personality is ever-present, whether in class or walking across campus. Having a vivid interest in her students and in her subject matter, she seems to transmit her own love of the literary field to those with whom she comes into contact. 5
