ONE OF THE EVER SHINING LIGHTS OF OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY, WE DEDICATE THIS 1942 ANNUAL. It is a richly deserved compliment that the students of Ohio Northern pay to Dr. C. H. Freeman in dedicating this issue of the Annual to him. For many years Dr. Freeman has brought to his task a passionate love of the great masters of poetry and prose. He has so studied them as to make them a part of himself. Adding to their timeless utterances his own illuminating inter- pretation, shrewd comment, and profound insight into their meanings, he has made these masters live again for succeeding generations of Northern men and women. As a teacher, Dr. Freeman has few superiors and still fewer peers. His readiness of quotation, the wide range of his memory, the deft touch of his humor make him outstanding in the class room. His influence upon his students is deep and permanent. I am proud, therefore, to have some part in writing this warm word of appre- ciation in honor of a master mind and a choice spirit, and to share in the re- curring experience of the touch of this beloved man upon the generations that have known him. President
