1 2.6 Hill Memorial College of Education 1871 is marked as the birthyear of Ohio Northern University. At that time it was established purely as a Normal School for the instruction of teachers in the art of teaching and the best methods of governing schools. As years passed, enrollment increased, more departments were added and the Normal School was placed under the College of Liberal Arts. For those completing a two year ' s teaching course, the degree of Bachelor of Pedagogy was conferred and for a three year course the degree Master of Pedagogy. Since that time the Normal School has been made a distinct department and at the present time the College of Education two degrees, a two year course in Pedagogy and a four year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education. The work of the College is recognized by both the American College Association and the Ohio State College Association.
