On the end of the parachute strings was tied a small calf, which kicked and scrembled wildly as he descended into the wide field below. From a small truck nearby ran several men who released the calf and carried it and the parachute to the waiting truck and drove oH'. X 1.2 nose in a concealed position That same night a small billboard displaying the fol lowing, appeared in front of the Grand Opera House in Rumpus Itidge Monsana 'Extra' Dazzling Holly Park the heart breaker and William Jesse, handsomest man on the screen, in a shi reel feature Nell of the Roaring Gulch The same evening a monstrous electric signboard high above Broadway flashed the same message Off the stage Miss Paiks is known as a baker of delicious pies and cakes having won several prizes for her efforts in this hobby A lccelpe for her famous Hvdrochlorxc tea cake will be sent to anyone Qlegardless whether they reside in Norwood or west of the Rocluesj upon receipt of ten cents Mr Jesse is well known to the public from breenlands icy shores to Lockland Ohio and needs no introduction His hobby consists of carving wooden bells from peach stones, at which he is very successful. A surprise awaited us. Just as the observers were manipulating the machine for the next Futuroscope the strains of Mary Lou burst upon our ears and through the lens we spied-a circus! A circus in this day and age! A circus in the true sense of the word! Lions 'n tigers 'n everything! Gay, prancing, white horses and riders bedecked in purple and gold-huge lumbering elephants, swaying and gliding rather than walking-and stoic Hindu attendants riding easily atop their heads- High-hatty camels with that Have I met you before air about them-well-groomed ponies--bright colored wagons clowns and more bands the cages of wild beasts more lions tigers, hyenas, lizards, snakes, and bears, n everything Screaming and hooting a wailing tune in steam came the callope end of the parade With the lens we followed the winding parade to the circus grounds where it disbanded lVe were interested to know the coming events which soon appeared In front of one large tent, stood the usual huge canvas paintings of fire eaters sword svsallowers monsters of past ages, Jewels of Egyptian Kings the wild man from Borneo, the hypnotlst the mmdreader the electric chair, and the man who can stand ten thousand volts, and lastly the strong man' What circus has not its strong-man? In front of this array of posters and upon a long plat- form stood a small giant-small in stature-a giant in buildg muscles like ropes were visible beneath the skin, even the fingers were heavily muscled, evidence of the super-man. As the bally-hoo artist below him yelled his message to the ignorant world the strong-man turned his head, from side to side, surveying the crowd. The face was heavily bearded, and the eyes showed the calmness of the deep thinker. And nowg crid the barker, concluding his sermon I will introduce this man to youg this man of super-human strength, possessor of the thing you all love to haveg the 'in 1 ri it-'- -' i I as .v . - I .n -v .s --- -- I - -1 -1 ' ' fQllAvYlV7i'fhY AYYITIAUFDXV l7li'fli'7li'7137.l'flY'7li'TQ'-'7li'lS'7lWll'lli'KYlLT7Qx'?l?iQfflwll' 'w': W . w'lQx'2'LWl 'l'lN':lx'lli1lu'.lN'1l1'.Qx' QNCK . -,W a1gQ4:Qg,Q.Q1.xmv7qlifmlm 1.64 C il M If A lsgjggigr-xv:-iw.m.xv1.lv4.xvlQ:cini1gimpimg .'
