Two of ITT - old friends, Carol Clouse and Diane Gunter, were talking to Ethel Shindeldecker . Diane now lives in Indiana, but comes back to Ohio to visit as often as possible. She teaches first grade at the same school where her husband, G. W, Thompson, is head coach. Carol works as a secretary while Dave is an accountant for a number of oil tycoons. But just as a hobby, she explained. Since we have struck a tidy little gusher of our own out West, we give all the money we earn by working to charities. How wonderful I exclaimed the familiar voice of Joyce Landolt , known as a dedicated social worker. Kid, I ' m worried about Steve, she said, looking in the direction of Steve Putman, He ' s with those rough-looking men. Do you know anything about them? Ethel, who holds the position of executive secretary to the Presi- dent of the United States, laughed. Don ' t worry, Joyce. Steve is one of our country ' s finest citizens. -Thy don ' t you ask him about his job? So we did, but Steve wasn ' t saying much. He explained that he ' d thought he could mix business with pleasure, but had brought some of his buddies along, just in case. But who do you work for? Joyce asked. Steve replied tersely, F.B.I. President ' s body guard. When it was time for the appearance of perhaps our most widely- known classmate, the band struck up Hail to the Chief , but the honored guest was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly the stately beat of the march broke off into a wild version of Topsy , and Melvin Hurless, 39th Pres- ident of the United States, leaped off the bandstand. I never could resist a good set of skins, he laughed. Not only does President Hur- less ' musical ability make news, but also his hobby of making archaeolo- gical expeditions on the White House lawn. All too soon it was time to go. As the last of the guests departed, I noticed a familiar figure sweeping the hall. Thy, Boyd Kline, Don ' t tell me you ' re the Maintenance Engineer! It ' s Butch to you, Judy, he laughed, running a hand over his thinning top-knot. I might as well be the Janitor, with all the work I do around here I But seriously, I don ' t think it ever hurts a superin- tendent to sweep out his school now and then. Keeps him from losing the common touch . I hated to leave my old classmates, but since everyone is taking the marvelous Super-Seaweed-Vitamins developed by Tom Ash and Gary Med- ford, the Class of ' 63 can count on being around for their reunion sixty years from now.
