Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1957 volume:

p. redentcition In the year of 1946 A.D., a group of boys and girls, some jubilant, some hesitant, entered for the first time the door of the O.C.L. school to begin our school careers. As the years passed, we grew physically and mentally and entered high school where finally today we stand at the door marked GRADUATION. We will soon pass through this door and walk out into a world that sorely needs the vision and spirit of the young men and women of America. After twelve years of work and striving toward our goals and ideals, we the Senior Class of 1957 of the Ohio City— Liberty School proudly presents Unis w3(s Jur dLife Page 1 Jur. Ujear (J. C. oL. This page we dedicate to our School, which was the setting for our lives. Through these doors we obtained our EDUCATION. Our Doors are always open to the public. Give love, and love to your life will flow, A strength in your inmost need; Have faith, and other hearts will show Their faith in your word and deed. Give a helping hand to those in need, And a harvest of golden grain You'll reap some day from the love-sown seed, You sowed in the Master's name. For life is the mirror of king and slave 'Tis just what we are and do; Then give to others the best you have And the best will come back to you. Your role in This Is Our Life will be more complete if you will practice the truths of this poem. May I wish you the best of luck in your future vocation and remember there is no greater guide to success than the lessons taught by our mistakes. Sincerely, Lester Latta. There we stood, 30 smiling but not happy freshmen. We were very unsophisticated, very unsure of ourselves, our teachers, and oh, so green. We managed to survive our initiation, and had elected as officers: President: Keith Wortman; Vice-President: David Clouse; Secretary: Karen Brubaker, and Barbara Ains- worth, Treasurer. Mr. Jack Weaver was our sponsor. This year we had our Christmas party at the Jones boys home. To raise funds this year we hawked OCL beanies, had several bake sales, and if our memories serve us correctly, another paper drive. Our sophomore year began minus two of our former members, Roberta Smith having moved to Celina, Ohio, and Bill Boughn to California. Our officers were: President: Sue Ross; Vice-President: David Clouse; Secretary: Karen Brubaker; Treasurer: Eulalia Hoffman. Our sponsor was Mr. Richard Elmore, who is currently playing in the U. S. Army Band, Washington, D. C. At the beginning of our Junior year, we had lost two more members. Peggy Bruns moved to Paulding, and has subsequently married. Stanley Ayers saw fit to work for money rather than knowledge. Our officers were: President: Dick Jones, Vice- President: David Clouse; Secretary: Karen Brubaker; Treasurer: Eulalia Hoffman. To reap the long green this year we served a banquet for the county school boards, had a ham supper, several more bake sales, and perhaps a paper drive. We also learned to sweep down the incline after basketball concessions. Our Junior-Senior Prom was well- worth all the time we spent on it. Mr. Bryon Chapman was our junior sponsor. During this year we all enjoyed a class trip to Chicago. The beginning of our last year of high school found our ranks thinned by one, Shirley Rickard having dived into the sea of matrimony. Our officers were: President: Wally Rhodes; Vice-President: Dave Clouse; Secretary: Karen Brubaker; Treasurer: Eulalia Hoffman. Mr. David Leiendecker was our class sponsor. This year is and has been a very busy one. We have sold magazines, had con- cessions at ball games, bake sales, stuffed envelopes, skating party, sold yearbooks, but definitely no paper drive. At this writing we are looking forward to our Commencement, our Senior Trip, but most of all, to the life that lies ahead. —THE SENIOR CLASS. First came the president, Wally Rhodes Who presides over every meeting. He always has a friendly smile And meets us with a friendly greeting Next comes David Clouse, Such a fine little lad, And as for Vice-President Their couldn't be a better one had. Now let's see who is next, It's Karen Brubaker whom we all adore; She's our pretty secretary And also our Annual Editor. Our Totem Pole editor and treasurer too Is Eulalia Hoffman, a real nice lass She's also witty and jolly too She rates A 1 in our class. A Matthews boy, his name is Jan, He's one who does all that he can. Judy Hunter of whom we are especially fond, Is in love with a boy named Ron. Next we find Jim Ash, A real nice boy he seems; He's always full of fun, And as for sports, he's on the beam. Music has rhythm and a regular beat. We march to a beat and sing to a beat. It sounds better that way and makes sense. Music is important to us. It is one way we can talk to one another. Man has learned to express his deepest feeling through music — from great joy to deepest religious sentiments. Music furnishes entertainment and relaxation for millions of people of all ages. It is with pleasure that we present here those who participated in vocal or instrumental music in our school. 7 Page 33 FIRST ROW, left to right: Sandra Lawson, Janet Tickle, Marilyn Blossom, Karen Bru- baker, Betty Lockhart, Judy Hunter, Linda Cowan, Jeanette Sutton, Ginger Spicer, Caro- lyn Montgomery, Janet Ellinger. Without .these numerous organizations there would be no outlet for the many talents and abilities of our school life. Our lives are made happier by the choice of par- ticipation in these various extra-curricular activities. page 39 ie5 Page 40 U ouna a 1956 Pi tJl ecu t  pom The Junior-Senior Prom is one of the outstanding activities of our lives. We look forward to this event with great anticipation. As the theme for our prom we chose Young at Heart. We chose this theme because we as youth must face the world with courage and hope and we can if we remain young at heart. The date of the Prom was May 18, 1956. The auditorium was beautifully deco- rated with the pastel colors of pink, yellow, azure, and white crepe paper streamers. A white bridge led across a pool from the dance floor into a garden where punch was served. The event began at 6:00 P. -M. with a banquet supper honoring the Class of 1956. Following the banquet, everyone enjoyed an evening of dancing to the delightful music of Don Underwood's Orchestra. m Looks Inviting Some Last Minute Relaxation Page 41 jI.'jmuw '' '■ : The Finishing Touches f ore vjo 0 «cS rom fat ° . For those of us who watch 1 the game from the sidelines, athletics brings out our enthusiasm I and loyalty for our team. For those of us who don the I uniform, we build strong healthy bodies and develop strong I character. The fine characteristics we learn in training, 3 discipline, and teamwork carry over into later life and give us ! the courage to tackle life problems with a desire to win by playing the game honestly and aggressively. As in sports, every battle in life may not be victorious, but every engage- ment can be well played.
