Foreword: Out of the shadows of the past dawns a new Oglethorpe. Our college has kept the traditions upon which she was founded, and maintained high standards through war, depression and overwhelm- ing odds. Only now is the sky a brighter blue. - October 12, 1965, marked the anniversary of the first year com- pleted by Dr. Paul Beall as President of Oglethorpe. During this year we have noted many changes in our college — some with regret and others with happiness. Oglethorpe University no longer exists, but Oglethorpe College is alive and full of new spirit. We are no longer a school of scholastic isolation, limited social life, and apathetic sports and extracurricular participation; we are no longer an island, but an institution of learning nationally acclaimed and recognized. Students from Georgia and Florida have joined with others from such states as Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and many Asian and European countries to form the Oglethorpe family. Even with such wide diversity of origin and interests, students still have the opportunity to meet and get to know their professors; they still know and depend on one another for companionship and pleasure. It is through these pages that the new tide of events is seen surging through and changing parts of our Oglethorpe. Some of the tradition, much of the friendship, and all of the memories will always remain the same. These are the things which we, the YAMACRAW staff, have tried to capture in this THE 1965-66 YAMACRAW.
