aww a f As the '48 nd season opened and only fwe letter men returned, Coach Bill Blake was confront ed with the tas of rebuilding a whole new team As the opening game approached, however, Coach Blake had molded a well balanced eleven from the athletes on hand In the initial game, played in Saranac, the Blue Devxls outscored the Lakemen by a 7 0 count Harry Elhs carrled for the TD, which was followed by B111 Morley's converslon The No 2 con test ended with the Blue Devils overpowered by the Malone Huslnes to the tune of 19 6 Pat Hac kett, OFA end, crashed over for the Devils' only tally In their next game the Ogdensburg grldmen were trampled 54 0 by the mxghty mountameers from Tupper Lake But the followmg week they exhibxted the abllity of champions by commg from behind to down Dean Academy, 14 13, in one of the most thrillmg games of the season B111 Morley was outstanding and scored both touchdowns Jack Price added two conversions to make possible the vlctory The Blue Devlls attempted to make It two stralght when they met the Golden Bears from Canton but were set back by a 12 6 margm, despite the fme example of broken field runmng by Joe Pearson Bill Morley agam came through wnth the only Blue Dev1l score The next week OFA was crushed 27 0 by a scrappy Potsdam eleven The Blue Devlls' forward wall was a tower of strength, playmg their best game of the season, but the Blue and Orange tallled through the atrways In then' last game the Blue Devlls were sunk 33 0 in an ocean of mud by the Massena Red Ralders This year's team was composed of Pete Dlshaw, Larry Green Dxck Amo, Chuck Cutwa, Harold Jacques, Bill Russell, Gerald White, Carl Martel, Pat Hackett, lack Price and Doug Sanford 1n the line, Bill Morley, Harry Ellis Gordon Fuller, Ned Hackett, Chuck Hollis Carl Merria, Joe Pear son, Lawrence Bouchey and Don Plercey in the backfleld on the flrst strmg All Northern team and was chosen by his teammates as the most valuable play er of the Blue Devxls Coaches Elliott and Powers molded a strong B squad whlch proved vlctorious xn Its two games agamst the Malone B squad FIRST ROW I Bray,I Price, D Sanford L Green, R Amo, L Deschamps, C Cutwa G Whxte P Hackett SECOND ROW C Crownhart, L Bouchey, H Ellis,C Merrla, E Hackett,I Pear son, C Hollis W Morley, H Jacques THIRD ROW I Cutwa, L Morley, R Fuller, B Stouffer T Cummings W Beane, D Cool, W Russell, H jenkms, G Brown, B Ferguson, D Plercey, G Fuller 40 ' D 606 0.
