We are especially proud of this year's fine track team, since it is the first one which Ogden High School has boasted in a number of years. Several individuals made good showings in the East Central Illinois Conference and Champaign County Track Meets. In the County Meet, Fred Howell placed fourth in the 100 and second in the 220. The frosh-soph relay team, composed of Dick Howell, Lowell Osterbur, Gary Rogiers, and Fred Howell, came in second to Rantoul by inches. Ogden finished fourth in the Conference Meet with 28 and 3X5 points, behind strong teams from Homer, Rossville, and Ridgefarm. Fred Howell won the 100 and 220, setting new records in both eventsg Gary Rogiersplaced fourth in the 4403 Dale Behrens came in second in the mileg Fred Howell placed third in the broad jump, and Don White tied for fourth place in the pole vault. The Varsity mile relay team placed fourth, and the freshman 880 yard relay team won that event, setting a new record of 1:47.8. Team members are Dick Howell, John Thornpsen, Lowell Osterbur, and Gary Rogiers. Fred Howell's best time in the 100 this year was 10.2, posted in a meet at Young America, but he was unable to compete in the finals of the District due to a leg injury. Gary Rogiers came in seventh in the District in the 440 posting his best time of: '54, 1.
