Boys' Chorus The Boys' Chorus. which is under the direction of Mrs. Christ, has been together as a group for the past three years. At present the Boys' Chorus con- sists of eighteen members. The boys also had a double quartet group Which wa: also directed by Mrs. Christ. This group included Carl Carter, Danny Freeman, Erwin Osterbur, David Plotner, Bob Meyer, Don Jacobs. Forrest Danner and Cilen Busboom. The chorus sang at the junior and senior plays. At the junior play they sang popular music which included 'Alf l Had My Way, For Me and My Gal, and Some Sunday Morning. Next came the Christmas Cantata on December l8 at which all the boys in special groups sang Christmas carols. The chorus attended the annual spring festival on April 25, at the Cham- paign Junior High School, to which all of the Champaign County school mu- sical organizations were invited. The groups practiced during that afternoon of the festival night and on that evening sang for their parents and the many friends. Jean Fry, Wilma Jacobs, Gwendolyn Hiser. Fourth row-Ilene Frerichs. Rose Ellen Lane, Lois Boyd, Irene Aden, Martha Bloomfield, June Bradley, Verna Duitsman, Mary Danner, Clarene Hayn. Girls' Chorus The Girls' Chorus, directed by Mrs. Christ and accompanied by Mary Lou Habben, consists of those girls who are interested in choral music. The chorus met every sixth period on Tuesday, except on Thursday at which time the Mixed Chorus met. At the junior play there were two special mixed chorus groups. They sang Some Sunday Morning. and i'For Me and My Gal. On March 28, the chorus also sang at the senior play. ' On December 18, the combined chorus gave a cantata, HA Surprise for Santa. The entire group sang six Christmas carols in the first act. The second act consisted of a piano solo by Mary Lou Habben, a soprano solo by Eilene Robbins, a. trumpet solo by Robert Meyer, a reading by Helen Bluhm, and several band numbers. On April 25, the chorus attended the annual music festival at the Cham- paign Junior High School, to which all musical organizations of the county were invited. Mary l.ou Habben, accompanist, and Mrs. Band Mrs. John Waldrip directed the band for one month and then resigned. with Mrs. Alyce Christ taking her place. Many of the students started as beginners this year and are now playing in the band. The band played at all home basketball games, marching out and playing while standing in formation. lt played at the junior and senior plays, for the Christmas Cantata, and graduation. On April 25, the band attended the Champaign County Music Festival at Champaign Junior High School. Some of the selections played were Fm- braceable You, The Waltz King, and 'il Hear America Singing. Members of the band and instruments played are as follows: Carl Carter -bass: Betty Eyestone, Helen Bluhm, Donald Jacobs, Vivian Jacobs, Richard Esworthy, William Steffey, and June Bradley-clarinet: Danny Freeman and Wilma Jacobs-saxophone: lrene Aden, Robert Meyer, Robert Behrens, Mil- dred Cironewold, Richard Yeats, and Genevra Miller'-cornet: Herbert Bluhm and David Plotner-trombone: Gwendolyn Hiser-bass drum: Bill Meadef snare drum. Robert Meyer played a cornet solo, A Merry American Christmas, and Danny Freeman played a saxophone solo, All Aboard for Santa Claus, for the Christmas program. Mary Lou Habben accompanied the band the first semester and played solos for several different occasions. Betty Eyestone and Marilyn Huls were the accompanists during the second semester.
