FRESHMEN In the fall of '46, a group of twenty-one freshmen swarmed into the halls of Ogden High, bringing with them a lot of pep and energy. As most freshmen are, these greenies were quite backward until they learned their way around and got a better understanding of high school life. There were some who rep- resented the county grade schools, but most of them came from across the road. For a few weeks, the upperclassmen had difficulty in distinguishing one from the other, but after initiation, they were one of us and we became better ac- quainted. We soon found them no longer backward, but with plenty of vim, vigor, and vitality. Several of the freshmen played in the band and most of them belonged to the boys' and girls' choruses. All of the girls belonged to the F. H. A. and some of the boys belonged to the F. P. A. A few of the boys were active in sports and it is believed that they may be good athletes in a year or more. Some of them made the second team basketball squad this year and did very well. Sponsored by Miss Gioannini, the class elected ofiicers at the beginning of the year as follows: President ...,..,.,,.,...,,.. ,.... ,,,..... D i ck Yeats Vice-President .,... . ..,, . ..,..,. Several of the boys were very successful in the state judging contest at Uni- versity of Illinois. Glen Busboom, Robert Osterbur, and John Osterbur were on the dairy team which placed second. Elvin Osterbur, Walter Robbins, Don- ald Jacobs won the beef judging contest. placing first. Elvin Osterbur, Danny Freeman, David Plotner received third at the Springfield State Fair on beef judging. A project tour is being planned for the summer months: nearly all of the boys have their projects as means of raising money. The boys agreed to clear away the timber on the Plotner farm where the tornado struck. They also sold garden seeds and collected dues. Nearly all intend to show livestock at the F. F. A. fair. A Father-and-Son Banquet was held in the earlier part of the year, The F. F. A. has been very successful this year in enrollment and activities, but next year we hope that it will be better and more enjoyable to prospective members to encourage them to join. 22 The 1947 Maroon
