THE GOLDEN STRIPE Apnatruphr in Uhr Erig-Mnhnma I She was a noble vessel, And she sailed the frothy sea, Her keel was like the blacksnake, Her mast was like a V. 2 The Cap. was awful batty, His head it had no -hair, The O.D. scrubbed the decks And the Cooks worked St. Hilaire. 3 The side boys all wore dresses, The engines burned no coal: The Cap'n would have his little joke Gad! bless his batty soul. A 4 So steamed the trim Gohoma Upon the wintry sea, iVVith keel that's like the blacksnake And crew that sing in glee. 5 The liixcc. he is the leadsman And perches in the chains, The gunner is the helmsman, And thus he needs no brains. 6 At last the good Gohoma Saw afar her native sod, She let go both her ground leads And docked in Harvard Yard. 7 Four years her crew did labor To win a higher berth, Four years they worked with vigor In the dryest dock on earth. 8 At last their labors ended, They hid away their tools, W'ere promptly made inactive, Poor, misguided fools! 9 The crew of the Gohoma Must leave her and be offg The crew of the Gohoma No longer of the cloth.
