FOOTBALL REVIEW In spite of their two win and seven loss record. thc 1951 Husky football team was better than a quick glance at the record would indicate. They finished in sixth place in Northeast Iowa Conference play with two victories and five defeats. The two victories were registcred against Cresco, 13-0, and Cedar Falls, 31-12. Head coach Chuck Joss, assisted by Cy Bellock and Jim Nelson. in his first season in Oelwein, ran his offense considerably from the T formation, mixing in some single wing plays. The team opened the season against a strong Marion squad. The locals wilted under the continuous attacks by the fast backs and heavv line of the opposition. Final score was Marion 32, Oelwein 13. The local eleven defeated Cresco 13-0 in their first offense bat- tle. Outstanding run of the game was a 65 yard jaunt by Leo Spider Jorgensen. The Husky line of Nat Bly, Sam Greco, Les Ohl, Dick Droste, Dean Iverson, Bill Mack and Rex Dudley was at its best in holding Cresco scoreless. Following the game were two losses on the road that gave Oelwein followers little to cheer about. After being beaten by Charles City 57-26, the locals were shut out 19-0 by Grin- nell. The high point of the season was against Cedar Falls when the O'Husks unleashed a tremendous second half drive to win 31-12 be- fore a large crowd of Homecoming fans. After scoring on the fourth from scrimmage, the Huskies found themselves behind 12-7. In the second half they probably played the best ball all season and scored four touchdovnms to the losers none. This game was a fine finish for 1951 Homecoming festivities. After this victory, the team lost four straight victories in a row to New Hampton, Decorah, Osage and Waverly by top heavy scores. 24 Scpt. Sept. Sept. Oct. Oct. Oct. Oct. Nov. Nov.
