OUR TOWN The Thespians proved that the spirit of reveliy und lun, whieh exited among our l'o1el'athers, who gathered around the Lampliies and made the eiiele of covered wagons, still exists among the young people of today. The 'Ihespians produced Our Town, provided a grub-wagon for basketball fans, and changed the gas lights of the auditorium to electric. Their job was not to fight Indians, or move Westward, but they did help make O. H. S. a more pleasant place.

VARIETY SHOW Highlights of the year and a spectacular success! The all-school variety show t'Hiways and Biwaysf' This gay, colorful show was sponsored by the School Council, directed by Miss McGivern and enjoyed by a capacity- filled auditorium on March 4, 1949. New backdrops, colorful costumes, modern music and the minuet, and talent unlimited made this an event to be remembered by the students who produced it and the audience who lent their chuckles and applause to it. Even a race against the dead line couldn't prevent the annual staff from shooting the variety show in ac- tion, the results of which appear on these pages. The Newstaff skit, Hot Icicles, took first prize for the main act with its humor, its music and its act- ing. Yankee Doodle, Y-Teen's contribution to the main acts was a clever skit involving children from many nations and a certain Miss Russia. Soft lights, a dancing couple, southern ballads, and a tribe of cute black, dancin' chillun made up the senior skit into a regular Southern scene. Attired in pinafores or jeans, the mixed chorus o Oelwein High treated music from the great Oklahoma' in a very professional and delightful manner. The O. H. S. band presented their rendition of som popular songs and beat out a very dignified minue while four students, attired appropriately, did a rea old-time rninuet. A pseudo-sophisticate presenting interpretive poet and a fellow selling pop corn kept up a lively, antagonis tic conversation for their entra' act and received firs prize in that category. A can-can done by seven girl was imitated hilariously by those big hulking thing known as O' Club boys. Boots and Saddles and Buttons and Bows len a western flavor to this grand show. Fine music by Oelwein High's quartet and trio an a dancer on her way to South America helped to provid entertainment between curtains. From the first 'tAll Aboard to the grand final Oklahoma , Hiways and Biways was Oelwein High' Biggest little show in the world. .enlist A 1. Pause that refreshes J. llo, Marylyn 11.
