Reta Horst, Betty Lou Schwartz, Frances Voise, Marilu Giese, Meryl Williams, Lois Ann Gunderson, Dorothy Oroh, Vera Lenhart, Vern Jantz, Lorus Quast, Walter Deife, Arthur Winter, Ioworth Dormaier, Ben Smith, Bill and Jack Stokes, Bobby Hemmerling, Arthur Thaut, Loren Horst, Wayne Lenhart, and Lyle Dumaw. We chose the following officers for the first semester: President, Lorus Quast, Vice President, Lois Gunderson, Secretary, Meryl Williams, Treasurer, Ben Smith, Class Representative, Bill Stokes. L Our second semester officers were: President, Lorus Quast, Vice President, Walter Deife, Secretary, Arthur Thaut, Treasurer, Ben Smith, Representative, Vern Jantz. Freshman initiation was held October I9, when the seniors delighted in torturing us. After a hilarious day everyone resumed their rightful character at a dance sponsored by the seniors. This year we were in charge of an Armistice Day assembly. Mr, Moore spoke. .lack and Bill Stokes and Lyle Dumaw withdrew during the year. Lois Gunderson and Meryl Williams were made members of the Honor Society. The Sophomores, in order to begin the year right, started by electing the officers for the first semester. Those elected were: President, Lorus Quast, Vice President, Vera Lenhart, Secretary, Marilu Giese, Treasurer, Dorothy Groh, Sergeant-at-arms, Walter Deife, and Miss Marie Franz as our advisor. We had two student body officers, Reta Horst, Yell Queen, first semester and yell princess second semester, Lorus Quast, assistant secretary of the A.S.B. The Sophomores sponsored several activities during the year. A float was entered in the festival parade. This won fourth prize. A dance was given on the twenty-second of March with Saint Patricks Day as our 'theme and Ritzville as our guests. We played games and danced. Intermission was held at ten-thirty and refreshments were served. An assembly was given on April 26th. There being no special theme, a variety of skits were presented. TIGER TALES 1948 CLASS HISTORY lcontinuedj All the Sophomores enioyed this year very much and are looking forward to next year when they can walk into the Odessa High School as Juniors, The iuniors did not have very many events on the activity calendar but neverthe- less we were kept busy during the entire year. Class officers for the first semester were, President, Lorus Quast, Vice President, Vera Lenhart, Secretary, lvlarilu Giese, Treasurer, Frances Voise, Representative, Reta Horst. Class officers for the second semester were, President, Lorus Quast, Vice President, Reta Horst, Secretary, Marilu Giese, Treasurer, Meryl Williams, Representative, Vera Lenhart. The Junior Class play, Her Emergency Husband , was presented on November 22. The ticket sales were very good and the play was enioyed by all. The Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom was the most important event of the year. We chose as our theme Tulip Time In Holland . The gym was beautifully decorated in aqua and white. The menu for our banquet included crab cocktail, swiss steak, mashed po- tatoes, gravy, fruit salad, string beans, parkerhouse rolls, apple pie a' la'mode for dessert and coffee as a beverage. Lorus Quast and Vern Jantz were made members of the National Honor Society. Our Senior year took off with the Freshman initiation and dance as the first im- portant event. , The Frosh were numerous and good sports. They came to school dressed in their silly outfits, scared and a little hazy about their prayer. By the time evening rolled around they all looked civilized once again, There was a good turn out at the dance, and a good time had by everyone. The rest of the year went by without much excitement until plans for our Senior sneak began to take form, nobody knew where they wanted to go, or what they wanted to do when they got there. With Spokane on the list as the place to go we decided to leave May l4, and take in the Lilac Festival and other points of interest, Now at last graduation, the biggest event of the year and the same question, how are we going to do it? With the appointment of a few committees the details were gradually taken care of, class night brought ci lot of laughs for everyone. Now we have our diplomas and our high school days are over and l wonder if we aren't just a little sorry. T948 -. TIGER TALES CLASS WILL OF '48 Walt Deife wills his physique to Virgil Krell, if he had it would not remain dateless. Marilu Giese wills her ability to be ready on time to Marilou Schillinger who we are sure, can use it, Dorothy Groh and Meryl Williams will their ability to come late to class to Eugene Wraspir who is always five minutes earlier than they are. This Senior wills his way with girls to Art Odell, and since he is a good friend of his he wishes him all the luck in the world. Of course he is none other than Bobby Hemmer- ling. To Leslie Stehr, Vern Jantz wills his height, who we think could use a little. Vera Lenhart leaves all of her boy friends to Jackie Haskins, and with her luck she should be able to find one. Wayne Lenhart wills his neatly combed hair to Jim Arnende, Lois Ott has nothing else to will except her red hair and freckles and these she 'wants to keep. Lorus Quast wills his gift of speech to Esther Meske, Look where it got Lorus. It should do the same for her. Betty Lou Schwartz leaves her shyness with everybody and everything to Belle Odell, We feel it might help in later life. To Veda Mills, Ben Smith wills his ability to write book reports. For further infor- mation see Ben. Emogene Starkel leaves her good grades in American History to Don Weishaar who probably will be there next year. So he won't be lonely, Art Thaut wills his ability to keep a conversation with himself to Melvin Carlson. He should enjoy himself, Art did. Art Winters wills his pool playing to Jack Gasser. Have fun Jack, he did. Reta Horst and Frances Voise are going to be a little different. They oren't leaving anything. They feel sure that they will be able to use it all in later life. TIGER TALES E- T948 CLASS PROPHECY In the summer of l968, Mr. Weddle, while on his vacation, returned to Odessa for a brief visit. As a guest of the Chamber of Commerce at their weekly luncheon, he met Walter Deife. Walt told him he has taken over the Tractor and Implement Co. Mr. Weddle noticed, upon leaving the luncheon, the numerous little implements that quickly attached themselves to Walt. Entering the Corner Store, Mr. Weddle met Ben Smith lust leaving. Ben said he was on a visit from Alaska where he has been gold mining. He introduced his wife and three little Eskimos. Ben said Art Winter has finally graduated from college in Yankton, S. D. His first sermon, next Sunday, is entitled: Follow Me . One of the new attractions in the town is the art gallary which is operated by Wayne Lenhart. The outstanding feature is that most of the pictures are painted by the operator himself. He is still trying to paint a horse that really looks like a horse. Coming out of her beauty shop was Emogene Starkel. She told Mr. Weddle she very seldom had women customers. The numerous curly headed men in town had made him curious, but now he knows the answer. Emogene said Betty Lou Schwartz and her husband had moved to Hollywood. lt was for his health, her husband said. While talking to Frances Voise, Mr. Weddle was surprised to hear that she and her husband have taken over the Lyric Theater and advertise it as the Only Theater in the U. S. Showing Only Wild and Wooley Westerns. Visiting the community hospital, Mr. Weddle met Lois Ott and Vera Lenhart. Lois is head doctor and Vera head nurse. Between them they run one of the best little hospitals in the country, Lois, who was never one to gossip, said Bob Hemmerling was again courting B. G. Williams following the breakup of his third marriage. Bob is the shy type and iust can't seem to get up enough courage for the big question. Verna said that Marilu Giese and Lorus Quast were married and living in Wash., D. C. Although Lorus is an emminent member of Congress, he is in the doghouse at home. Marilu, who is a brunette, didn't appreciate the fact that she found a long, blond hair on his suit collar. At the school house, Mrs. Weddle met Meryl Williams, who is one of those old- maid school teachers. She told him that Vern Jantz is a professor at a college and has three of the orneriest little Jantzes you ever saw. Art Thaut arrived at the school just in time for his board meeting. As sleeping is his favorite pastime, we can imagine what he did, He is one of the community's most prosperous farmers. Leaving the school house, Mr. Weddle met Reta Horst who said that she and her husband were rather busy raising babies and beef, She said Dorothy,Groh and husband were raising kids and cattle. Having enioyed his visits, Mr. Weddle boarded his private plane at the local air- port and left for his home. He intends to continue with his very popular family band. JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY The great year came when the Sophomores of '47 became the upper classmen. We are now Juniors which we found it brought lots of work to earn money for the Prom. To acquire money for the Junior Prom we sold pop and hot dogs at football and basketball games and enjoyed every minute of the time, We next had to look forward for the Junior play. The afternoon performance was given on November 12, 1947 and the evening performance on the 13. The play We Shook The Family Tree, a comedy in three acts was a great success and we enjoyed giving it. The biggest event then came. The Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The menu con- sisted of cocktail-tomato juice with celery salt, baked ham with pineapple-fruit salad -jello base, scalloped potatoes, corn, apple pie alamode for dessert and coffee as a beverage. The theme ln Old Mexico was set up and the gym was beautifully decorat- ed in red and white. The prom was given on May 21, 1948, and the music was by the Harrington Melody Makers. E X . V .
