THE RACE OF IGNORANCE AND KNOWLEDGE IERTRUDF RIINIIK 15 GNORANCE and Knowledge are enemles and each decides to get possession of the Cape of Dollars Ignorance first reaches the mn called Street Sweepers and the inn keeper Labor demands him to help drive out the dragons Filth and D1rt before he can secure a night s lodging Upon arlslng in the morning he asks Labor the nearest way to the Cape of Dol ars Labor directs hlm to go to the next station called Dellv ery Boy As soon as he enters the town the officers seize him and hold him ln captivity for two months 1n which time he is used as a tool to commit a theft When he IS released he Journeys onward until he reaches the city of Ofiice Boy He decides to remam there about a year to earn some money w1th which he may buy some new clothing called Experience After he has bought enough Experience to satisfy hlm he continues hlS Journey to the Cape of Dollars Knowledge nrst inquires the shortest and least dangerous route to the Cape of Dollars Christianity tell shlm that the shortest way leads through towns called Untruth and Theft but lt IS rather dangerous and that a longer route is by way of Truth but it vslll msure a safe a1r1val He decides to try the way of Unt1uth and Theft Upon entering the town of Un truth he lS made to swear he vull never tell anythlng that takes place there He rather enJoys the company of the people at Un t1 uth called Lies but one mght he is captured and taken to the town called Theft There he IS forced to st al One night vshlle he IS commlttmg one of these deeds a v1s1on appears to him telling hlm to flee from that wlcked city This warning has so much influence upon him that he decldes to free himself 1mmed1 ately from such corrupt company and Just before midnight the next mght with much difficulty he flees from the city and starts back to find the road to Truth The next place Ignorance reaches after leaving the clty of Office Boy IS the city of Clerk ln Store and as he rather likes the city in general he decides to stay for a few days While wandering around the streets one mght he corr es to a little room called Gamblers Den It IS a rather curlous looking little place he thlnks that it would be very mterestlng to watch the proceed ings within Not long after he has entered one of the occupants named Temptation begins insisting that he Jom in the merrl ment telling him he looks as lf he could put one over on them He being very eager to learn accepts the compliment and Joins them But before an hour is gone he loses both of his gold pieces Honesty and Sweet Dxsposltlon He flees from the clty of Clerk in Store as qulckly as possible resolving never to enter again He does not stop at any other Cltl6S until he comes to a place called Store Keeper There he is informed that there is ro road leading from that clty to the Cape of Dollars So he gives up 1n despair and remains in the city of Store Keeper the rest of his life Knowledge ln the meantime reaches the city of Truth and while there he is told always to take Honesty and Love to acompany him on his Journey He learns that the distance from the city of Truth to the Cape of Dollars IS estlmated to be only a few miles Upon leaving the city he asks Honesty and Love to accompany him and also takes his little dog Courage One evening after Knowledge and Courage have walked a long x hlle they espy the top of a castle at Cape of Dollars and al though they are very warm and weary from their long days Journey they are so eager to reach the Cape of Dollars that they travel on as fast as possible and Just as the sun goes down they reach the Cape of Dollars The first thing ln the morning knowledge looks for his old enemy Ignorance but not findmg him he takes full possesslon of the Cape and always keeps Hon esty Courage and Love as guards against intruders W I 1 1 1 1 .
