Five percent of the junior class and twenty-five percent of the senior class were select- ed in February, 1948, on the basis of their character, scholarship, service, and leadership. To be eligible for consideration, a student must have a term average of 85. Five courses, comprising the speech . field, have been offered: fundamentals, choral reading and advanced interpretation, dramatics, debate and public speaking, and radio techniques. One of the departments special enterprises is the Odessa High School Theatre, which has presented seven major productions in the two years of its existence, and many one-act plays. The debate teams, Choral Readers, and gifted indivi- duals have made several public appearances during the current year. We are looking forward to a greater appreciation of the speech field. Head ofthe Drill Squad was ki i s s Dorothy Brown, and head of the Pep Squad was lvliss Dorothy Lewis. Leading the cheering section of Odessa High School this year was, for the first time in the history ofthe school, boy as well as girl pep leaders. The girls drilled every afternoon from four to five dur in g football season, perfecting their marching technique. They al s o drilled with the ba nd on fo r m a tio n s for games during school periods. Pe p rallies were held before each game by the entire school in the auditorium.
