Today the school plant is valued at over a million dollars. This investment has been made in order that the boys and girls of this community may have opportunities that will enable them to grow into useful men and women and be worthy members of society. ln the following pages we see the various buildings in the Odessa School System. In it are housed the Administrative Offices: fifteen class rooms and laboratories: a modern, well equipped shop: a library of live thousand volumes: a commodious gymnasium provided with oflioes for instructors, lockers, and showersg a cafeteria large enough to seat three hundred studentsg and an auditorium with a seating capacity of seven hundred and fifty. This department includes the School Board the Superintendent the Principal the Faculty the Business Manager the Secretaries and the Foreman of Buildings and Grounds. Each individual is responsible for definite tasks. If the school system is to function orderly and well no person can shift his duties to another. We must all hang together or we shall hang separately was never truer than when applied to a school organization. iT SUPERINTENDENT MURRY H FLY Q Xie. Nlr 'Xlurry H Fly came to Odessa as Supermtendent of Schools ln 1925 Hls story of the development of our school system smce that time sounds like a faxry tale From a total enrollment of 141 students wxth 9 teachers to 3 900 students with 100 teacners IS Indeed a far ry Nlr Fly says that the only thxngs which have not been changed dunng these fifteen years are some of the trees on the campus The one red brlck buxldmg has been replaced by a modern school plant composed of a Semor Hugh School a jumor Hugh School and three I-lementary Schools located IH different parts of the dlstrnct -Xnd the schools are stxll growmg At the present time plans are bemg made for the bumlclxng of a senior hugh school annex lt IS a recogmzed fact that no busmess IS more efhclent than nts chlef executive Ylr Fly s abxlnty as an administrator IS evldenced by the competent manner m which the Odessa schools are operated He has developed a school system of which the entire commumty IS justly proud ln addxtmn to hns executive abnllty Mr Fly has the happy faculty of knowmg and llkmg people He has the love and respect of the student body and the teachers He says that the thnng he h l txon wlth hns students mlsses most as an admmlstrator m a large school system IS t e c ose assocla and faculty No person ln the system knows as many students by name as does Mr Fly He can walk into any class room and call most of the boys and gurls by name These and many other quahtnes too numerous to mention are the things that we belleve have made Mr l-ly one of the most successful superintendents ln the Texas Public Schools PRINCIPAL TAYLOR M. Coming out of the first season in Class A co-champions is indeed an accomplishment and we all doff our hats to the coaches and squad alike. In addition to football our school participates in basketball for boys and volleyball for girls. In the following pages we see these teams in action.
