Oh, no' It only happens once 1n a lifetime For the first few hours I was Mr X, but as luck would have it my parents, Hr and Hrs Albert A Nielsen named me Ronald Wayne The first few years nothlng zappened to me except I d1d what came naturally The year 193A found us movlng from my b1rth place to another farm near Kearney, Nebraska This farm was a nice place to grow up it was located L mlles south and 3 mlles west of Kearney Life went on, t1me passed, until I entered Reed School Thls was a little country school lf mlles from home I attended Kearney as a Freshman, and ln my sophomore year I entered Odessa High I am now in m last year of h1gh school and after that I intend to fann w1th my father On the Zhth day of August, 1932 at six o'clock in the evening, ELSIE Dr Hart of Kearney said I spolled a dlnner date for him by making my imprompted appearance My parents lived just west of BIRT the school house then, but as my Dad's work was in Kearney we moved there shortly after my sisters's birth two years later There I grew to the ripe old age of 5 years when I started to school I attended the Emerson School In 1939 my folks moved back to Odessa and I entered Miss Ell1ott's Room where I met my classmates C ol Qipp, Delmer Swartwood and Marvin Elllott It was there I really liked school and even thought of fa1l1ng so I could stay in her room The rest of my school life was spent ln Odessa where I nad many teachers whom I liked l9L3 I started my L H club l1fe by oin1ng a swine club and since that tlme I have completed 6 ,ears of club work In l9L8 L9 I won a tr1p to A H Club amp at Seward In l9L9 50 I received a Scholarsh1p to the Kearney State Teachers College for outstandlng work 1n L H work I can truly say I regret leavlng Odessa High school 8 3 : . u 5 o MAE . , V , e e ' . ' MWA, GRAMMAR BOOM Grades three, four, five and six had a total enrollment of 23 lively girls and boys who had an endless supply of energy for both work and play Out of the many units of study involved in teaching these four grades grew several drives for certain definite results One such project was that of the Better English Bulletin Board, begun the second suester when the 23 pupils became 23 critics of every sentence spoken in their presence The Clean Up Club was an activity which was organized and planned to fit the needs of the room and the school Twenty-mimzte business meetings were held once a week The pupils learned how to conduct meetings independ ently, how to hold elect1ons, and how to work on comittees and prepare reports Learning the duxocratic way of mling by majority was an important result of these activlties KINDERGAHTEH This kindergarten group of 191.9-1950 have the recognition of being the first beginning class in the history of the school This ten marks the beginning of such a class :Ln Odessa and a fine group they arel Their pic- ture we1.l tells they are a happy, cheerful class-one we are proud to have in our school. The class started with fourteen members. Arvene Sibrants and Sharon Carr have moved to other districts which leaves our number now twelve. FIRST AND SECOND GRADES These two classes nearly munber the same as the kindergarten, with four in the first and seven :Ln the second. Sandra and Ilene King, second graders left us in January. Our total enrollment of twenty-six is now twenty-three.
