Nationally affiliated with Phi Rho Pi, this organization encouraged members in public speaking. Recently this club won first place in a senior college tournament at the Univer- sity of New Mexico. Odessa College competed against 27 schools from 6 states and won sweepstakes to add 5 trophies to the already overflowing cases. interest stimulated shakespeare 's works Endeavoring to stim- ulate interest in the works of Shakespeare, this club opened its door to anyone willing to absorb the' fascination of the playwright. The Shakespeare club met twice a month to deliver Sonnets and skits created by Shakespeare. The club sponsored the literary contests for World Poetry Day in which many area students participated. Shakespeare knew no greater ad- miration than frorn the club's sponsors Marjorie Morris and Mary Roach. The 1969-70 officers of the Shakespeare Club were: Linda Anderson-president, Scott Martin-vice-president, Io Spinks-secretary treasurer, Brenda Boone-social chairman, John Hoover-publicity chair- man, Mary Cleveland-talent scout, and Sally Allen-ICC rep- resentative.
