Pressly was confronted with the same problem last season. hut his charges came through in the elutch and awarded Pressly. Odessa College. and themselves with a second-plaee finish at the national games. With only two lettermen returning from last year's winning team. Pressly eoncerned himself in preparing for what proved to be another competitive season. Steve Prater, sophomore hurl- er, and Charles Lacy. sophomore third-haseman. were the only returning players. The Odessa College diamondmen held several non-confer ence encounters in preparation for improving on last season's 32-9 won-lost record. Of the twenty-two-man team, eighteen were freshmen. Although the majority were newcomers to eol- lege competition, Pressly had praise for and confidence in his young team. The boys, in turn, held long afternoon praetices in competition to gain a starting berth on the squad. Stamina, high morale, and the desire to win paved the way for the suecess of the Wrangler troopers as they readied for the season opener against Artesia, New Mexico, and zin- other bid for the National Junior College Championship Tour- nament.
