Stamina and the -pirit to come out on top readied the Wvranglers for scheduled encounters such as the Southwestern Park and Reereation Invita- tional Meet, the annually-held Border Olympics, and the I-Iohbs Invitational Meet. Returning to aid the squad were hroacljumpers N. S. Hurd and Pete Stewart. along with sprinter Mike Perry. These three participants were a hig part ol last YPHIJS successful showing. Billy Harris, Maurice Thurman. and Johnny Gentry also provided the team with the necessary depth. Gentry represented lfctor High School in the National Meet his senior year. In preparation for the National Junior College Athletic- Asso- ciation Meet. whieh was held at Carden City. Kansas. the OC tracksters held many long. afternoon workouts in order to improve on last yearis second-place finish. For many of the workouts and meets. cold weather, wind. and blowing sand were in order for the day. This helped test the strength. durahility, and speed of each of the participants. The Odessa College field and trackmen ran with much skill and pride. and realized that all of their hours of practice were Wellspent. The freshmen and sophomores together huilt the team and gained hoth experience and ahilily. 82 Mike Perry
