Wrangler Golfers Suooessfullg Compete for Title Coach James Russell 76 l S l I Teeing-off time began early this season as Coach Jimmy Russell's linksmen prepared to improve on last year's second-place finish in the National Junior College ranks. Leading the way for Coach Russel's women's team were Jane Bastanchury, Martha Wilkinson, Susan Moore, and Gail Sykes. Miss Bastanchury was last year's Junior College National Medalist. This season the golfers fared well in the annual tournaments in which they participated. The highly-publicized team of Miss Bas- tanchury and Miss Wilkinson continued to dominate meets as they presented the school with many honors, among which was a championship in the International Four-Ball in Hollywood. Florida. The foursome suffered their worst setback in two' years as they managed a third-place position in the University of Arizona Women's Collegiate Invitational. Completing the squad for the Wranglcer women golfers were Toni l-lowder, Jan Sculte, and Claudia Mayhew. In the menis division, sophomores Kurt Cox, Sanford Gibbs, Ronnie Leverich, and freshman Dewaine c'Poncho McNabb com- posed the Big 4 for Coach Russell. Named to the All-American squad his freshman year, Cox continued to pave the way for the men's team throughout the season. Other members of the menis squad were Steve Thompson, Bill Baker, Mickey Jones, and Eddie Burkett.
