1 Netters Prove Tough Competition in Conference j ' it inn - ' fl l it N . f.-' I re! lr , I ' ' 12 X 1 ,M . Paul deMesquita Connie Stotts Coach Virginia Brown emphasized vigorous exercise as the Odessa College Wrangler netters prepared daily for the oncoming court season. The Wrangler netters were again favored to finish high, if not first, in the junior college ratings. Last year the Blue and White courtsmen presented the school with a national junior college championship. During the year, the Wrangler group took top honors in numerous meets. Tournaments scheduled for the 'OC squad included the El Paso Open, the Odessa Country Club Women's Collegiate Invitational, and the National Indoors in Dallas. Coach Brown's team came home with many honors and much pride as they continued to' domi- nate the meets. Paving the way for the successful showings was Patsy Hippy, who is being considered to compete in the l968 Olympics, along with Connie Stotts, Paul delVlesquita, Bob Babcock, and Leo Estopare. Adding much depth to the squad were new members Estopare, Nancy Gelner, Daine Matzner, and Ginger Pfeiffer. Miss Hippy managed to establish an impressive jnum- ber of wins during her two-year attendance at OC. She was ranked second in the US. in 18-and-under singles and 13th in the US. in women's singles. Hippy and Miss Stotts teamed up to form a one-two punch in doubles competition. DelVIesquita was also a big factor for the success of the Wrangler netters throughout the year. De- Mesquita and Estoparv paired up to establish the men's doubles twosome. With such talent on the courts and the desire to win, it's no wonder the Odessa College Wrangler netters en- joyed another fine year as they matched wits and strength with the determined opposition. ig? 5.3.3 if .T5f,s 4 so 7I
