Odessa Roundballers Fare Well in Pre-Season Bouts Odessa College ended its pre-conference games boasting a successful season, winning five out of the six warm upsn, second in the Temple Tournament and fourth in the Odessa Tourney. Opening the season with two successive victories over Artesia Junior College, 103-93 and 92-67, it took an overtime in Artesia for the Wranglers to down the Roadrunners of New Mexicog but playing their home opener, the Odessans were paced by four cagers who hit in the double figures-N. S. Hurd 22, Roger lVlcGlothin and Stan Hutson 15 each, and Chris Dowell 10. ln the 14-th Temple Christmas Tournament, OC placed second, defeat- ing Lee College of Baytown, 93-66, and Henderson County of Athens, 92-73. The Wranglers lost 98-70 to San Jacinto, the number-two-ranked junior college in the nation. Named to the All-Tournament Team for the second year were cagers Hurd and lVlcGlothin. As returning champions of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Tourney, the Wranglers racked up 103 points to Cisco's 95, only to fall to New Mexico Junior College, 93-81. Finishing in fourth place, OC took a 110-89 beating from the Trojans of Southwest. Averaging 19 points per Odessan listed on the All-Tourney Team. Stretching the seasonal record to - , - g g, pp Weatherford Junior College. 90-793 Dowell and Hutson were the leading scorers with 20 and 18, respectively. During the Christmas holidays, the Odessa College basketballers battled Paris Junior College to an 82-80 defeat. 'lBoody', Hurd led the attack with 23 points, followed by Hutson with 16, lVlcGlothin with 14-, and Jerry Johnson with 11. The last no-count game proved successful as OC squeezed by Eastern Oklahoma A 8: M, 91-89. This victory left Coach L. E. lVlcColloch and his boys with a 7-4 standing. S, Hurd surround a Cisco opponent. OC downed the visitors 103-95 in the opening round of the Odessa Tourney. Being out-rebounded, Roger McGlothin and two Nvranglers move for- ward to regain possession ,from Artesia. The Wranglers lashed the Roadrunners, 92-67, in the first home game.
