S4 Nursing Students Gain Professional Medical Skill The OC nursing program includes hroad educational background in addition to nursing courses. The nursing student develops as an individual, as a citizen, and as a competent practitioner in the field of nursing. Each student, upon the completion of required courses, at the end of two years is granted an associate degree. Graduates, upon completion of an examination adminis- tered hy the State Board of Nursing, receive licenses to practice as Registered Nurses. Hospital practice is obtained at Odessa Medical Cen- ter Hospital, experience in psychiatric nursing at the Big Spring State Mental Hospital. Phgsical Education Department Stresses Fitness As old as mankind is the philosophy of a sound mind-a sound bodyf' Physical fitness goes hand-in-hand with the alertness to educa- tion so essential to the college student. Odessa College provides facilities for sports, both in and out-of- doors. Physical education, which is a course required of almost every undergraduate college student, may be taken as any of several sports. These include such diverse competitions as fencing, modern dance, gymnastics, and ping pong. ' Also included in the Physical Education program at Odessa College are Las Senoritas de las Rosas. official representatives of 0Cg the Womc1n's liecreational Association, which provides for the parti- cipation of female students in inter-collegiate competitiong and the cheerleaders. The PE Department is responsible for the basketball team, which consistantly outranks other competing junior collegesg the baseball team, which in '67 defeated all contenders for the National Junior College Championship titleg the gymnastics team, which travels throughout the country to attend meetsg the tennis squad, which is currently considered one of the best in 'thc nationg the track team, whose participation in track and field events has brought recog- nition to 0Cg and the golf team, who again for the eighth year captured the West Texas Junior College Conference title.
