il I l Staff Assists tudents With Librarg Research One of OC's greatest assets is its ever-expanding library, the facilities of which rank it among the best in the state. The library has something for everybodyg the microfilm li- brary, newspapers, reference books and materials, magazines, etc. There is a copying machine available for student use. The functions of the library are coordinated by a stall con- sisting of librarians and student assistants. The atmosphere of the library is conducive to study-there is, of course, quietg and there are excellent facilities for study, in- cluding private individual stucly booths. Use of the library is encouraged by all teachers, and it is a rare exception not to see the library at least two-thirds of the way full. The staff enables students to use the facilities at night also, as it is open week nights until lO p.m. Keeping the library in order and providing students with this facility are the librarians, Martha Huff and Mary Nieball. lna Barnett

76 Dr. Marshall Directs New The heavens have been a constant source of fascination to man from the days of pre-history. As astronomical knowl- TM' ' TA' l l,. l edge increases, the study of the stars becomes continually ,, more complex. The most striking feature of OC's new astronomy depart- ment is the planetarium, with which the nature and forma- tion of the heavens may be studied. It is located in the , Biological Science building and was a new addition to the l OC campus last year. Dr. Roy Marshall, the astronomy department's distin- t - guished director, is a well-known author and scholar'in his field. He has served as the director of planetariums in Phila- delphia and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and came to Odessa College as one of the most competent men in the field of astronomy. The planetarium is as comfortable as it is unique. As the student sits in cushioned tilt-back seats, he is treated to the spectacle of the night sky on the dome of the room. Motions of the earth and other celestial bodies may he accelerated or time may be compressed so that phenomena which takes centuries in nature can be depicted in a short period of time. This visual instruction aids in effective presentaton of the course. This course of study is a new area in which the Odessa College student can explore the world about him. The depart- ment is looking towards growth and expansion after being off to such an excellent beginning. , ll, U' V l 595 1 uma . .fe 5 Dr. Roy K. Marshall 7 llr.
