Mathematics Become' Inoreasinglg Complex Cone are the days when the mathematics stuclent,s main problem was learning his multiplication tables and finding square roots. The ever-increasing complexity of the woricl necessi- tates an ever-increasing complexity in mathematics. Tociay's math student must delve into the depths of physics, calculus, and analytic geometry. Engineering majors have to concentrate on the specific subjects of engineering drawing and physics, and physics majors must tackle heat, wave motions, optics, electricity and magnetism. The Mathematics, Physics. and Engineering Depart- ment of Odessa College provides a full two-year course of stucly to prepare the student for further study at a four-year college. il I l Staff Assists tudents With Librarg Research One of OC's greatest assets is its ever-expanding library, the facilities of which rank it among the best in the state. The library has something for everybodyg the microfilm li- brary, newspapers, reference books and materials, magazines, etc. There is a copying machine available for student use. The functions of the library are coordinated by a stall con- sisting of librarians and student assistants. The atmosphere of the library is conducive to study-there is, of course, quietg and there are excellent facilities for study, in- cluding private individual stucly booths. Use of the library is encouraged by all teachers, and it is a rare exception not to see the library at least two-thirds of the way full. The staff enables students to use the facilities at night also, as it is open week nights until lO p.m. Keeping the library in order and providing students with this facility are the librarians, Martha Huff and Mary Nieball. lna Barnett
