Wallace Jackson Three Departments Combined in One The merger of speech, drama, and radio this year cre- ated a new department at Odessa College. Head of the combination is Wally Jackson, who manages the radio station and teaches the accompanying courses. Comprising the speech and drama section are Lee Buice, Joe Downs, Durward Jacobs, and Ramona Peebles. The radio-TV students at OC are fortunate in that they are provided an opportunity to gain practical ex- perience in the college-owned and operated FM radio sta- tion, KOCV-FM. This program is aimed at giving the student academic training plus a foot-in-the-door for radio-television Work. The Drama Department produces several plays per year at OC to provide students with actual on-stage ex- perience. Classroom courses include the study of the theatre and its history, as well as acting, slagecraft, scene design, lighting, costume design, make-up and voice and diction. Courses in speech offer students the experience of speaking before audiences and the chance to travel to the many tournaments throughout the year. Speech classes include instruction in debate, forensics, oral interpreta- tion of prose and poetry, informative and extemporaneous speaking, and persuasive speaking.
