Newman Club Members Sponsor Aohvuhes To fulfill the Catholic student intellectually as well as spiritually was the goal of the Newman Club this year. Various projects such as bake sales and car washes added finances to the club's bank account. Civic projects were also a part of the New- man Club's activities. At the end of the spring term the club presented a gift to the college for its beautification. Dr. Helen Heinhart served as faculty advisor while Father James Plagens provided spiritual guidance. Officers include Paul delVlesquita, presidentg Gil Vasquez, vice presi- dentg Adela Larrea, secretaryg Mary Whitakei', reporterg and Gloria Franco, ICC representative. ,, Baptist Student Union Provides Christian Fun The objectives of the Odessa College Baptist Student Union are to lead students and faculty members to commitment to ,lesus Christ and guide them in devotional experiences, worship and Christian witnessing. It creates a Christian environment for social activities and recreations that it sponsors throughout the year. Membership in the BSU rests upon voluntary individual student membership in any Southern Baptist church or unit organization, but students of any faith can participate. The BSU also serves to unite Baptist students and to offer them an opportunity to examine academic disciplines from a Christian perspective. The Baptist Student Union is supported by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Odessa Baptist Association. It is under the direction of Charles Ashby with Leon Sherman and Lois Ball serving as .faculty advisors. President Tim Sledge was assisted by Pam Corley, secretaryg Marylyn Godwin, enlistmentg Darla Darville, devotionalg Linda Cox and Don Everett, missionsg Mary Shelheld, musicg Sandy Plummer and Jimmy Johnston, publicityg Kerry Peacock, socialg Margie Myers, student center, and Mike Young, evangelism.
