MSM Activities Include Meng Service Projects Many organizations conduct service projects throughout the year. The Methodist Student Movement sponsored a book drive during the college term as one of their public services. They collected hooks in order to send them to Aldersgate Junior College in the Philippine Islands, which because of shortage of funds, needed supplementary books for their library. Leading the Methodist group as president was Charles Spence. Assisting him were Bertha Steinbeck, vice presidentg Phyllis Alsobrook, secretary-treasurerg Susan Schock, re- porterg and Roy Platner, publicity chairman. Advisor for the organization was Reverend Bernard W. Stein and faculty sponsors were Mary Roach and James Kemp. The Methodist Student Movement provided college youth with an opportunity to express their religious helief and associate with others with the same aspirations and goals. Christian fellowship was also an aim of the club. Member- ship was open to any who wished to attend, but the nucleus was composed of Methodist students who have an interest in furthering the platform of the organization. Other interested parties could place membership. The purpose of the organization was to foster a better understanding of the various lields of jour- nalism through discussion, visitation and actual ex- perience. Such experiments included a lecture by Wally Jackson on raclioftelevision and many dinner meetings. Newman Club Members Sponsor Aohvuhes To fulfill the Catholic student intellectually as well as spiritually was the goal of the Newman Club this year. Various projects such as bake sales and car washes added finances to the club's bank account. Civic projects were also a part of the New- man Club's activities. At the end of the spring term the club presented a gift to the college for its beautification. Dr. Helen Heinhart served as faculty advisor while Father James Plagens provided spiritual guidance. Officers include Paul delVlesquita, presidentg Gil Vasquez, vice presi- dentg Adela Larrea, secretaryg Mary Whitakei', reporterg and Gloria Franco, ICC representative.
