Shakespeare Club Sponsors Variety of Activities It faded on the crowing of the cock. Some say that ever 'gainst that season came. Wherein Oar Savioar's birth is celebrated, Th.e bird of dawning singeth all night long, And then, they say, no spirit dare stir abroad, The nights are wholesome, then no planets strike, No fairy takes nor witch hath power to charm, So hallowed and so gracious is the time. This speech by Marcellas to Horatio comes from Hamlet, Shakespeare's tragic story of the Prince of Denmark. Other selections from his works were portrayed at the Globe of the Great Southwest during the annual Shake- spearean Festival sponsored by the Shake- speare Club. World Poetry Day in October provided an opportunity for area residents, both, college students and non-students, to display their abilities in poetry writing. Winners of the contests were Kay Beasly and Sue Johnson in the category of sonnets on Texas. Mrs. G. B. Overczish and David Holcomb placed in the miscellaneous category. Featured in the spring was the Writer's Roundup, also sponsored by the Shakespeare Club. Ambrosia from the Gods'A' headed the agenda for World Poetry Day. MSM Activities Include Meng Service Projects Many organizations conduct service projects throughout the year. The Methodist Student Movement sponsored a book drive during the college term as one of their public services. They collected hooks in order to send them to Aldersgate Junior College in the Philippine Islands, which because of shortage of funds, needed supplementary books for their library. Leading the Methodist group as president was Charles Spence. Assisting him were Bertha Steinbeck, vice presidentg Phyllis Alsobrook, secretary-treasurerg Susan Schock, re- porterg and Roy Platner, publicity chairman. Advisor for the organization was Reverend Bernard W. Stein and faculty sponsors were Mary Roach and James Kemp. The Methodist Student Movement provided college youth with an opportunity to express their religious helief and associate with others with the same aspirations and goals. Christian fellowship was also an aim of the club. Member- ship was open to any who wished to attend, but the nucleus was composed of Methodist students who have an interest in furthering the platform of the organization. M resident Charles Spence makes a pr0p0Sal for Illfi Plubi MS p acceptance. Bertha Steinbeck points out some ideas for upcoming events sponsored hy the group while two club members look on. l34
