®Ije (Eljrtgtmas The Senior High Band Puts on the Ritz The Winter Semi-Formal was sponsored by the Senior High Band under the direction of Mr Steven Shewan. Mr Shewan, it turned out, proved to be as good a social director as he is a band director. It was noted that not too many years ago O-M used to have a Christmas Formal. What happened? It quietly faded away. Yet, on December 23, 1987, the night of the last day of school, a new tradition was hopefully started. The Semi-Formal was held at the Fountainbleau Restaurant on the shores of Cayuta Lake. There were a lot of couples present, those going steady and those who just got together for a great evening of fine dining, dancing, music, and great holiday atmosphere. Adults and students alike rocked to the sounds of Belinda Carlisle and Pretty Poisen. Not only did Mr Shewan do a great job, but the O-M’s little band of helpers proved their skills by doing a their job to create a great evening. Things went so great that we’re sure that we’ll see Christmas Semi-Formal: Part 11 for ’88. This is what memories are made of. Above: Dance Master. Mr Shewan. hopes Ruth can keep up with him. The National Honor Society chapter at O-M recognizes leadership, citizenship, and academic excellence. Further, our Honor Society performs services for the school. This year, as usual, the Society acted as hosts on Parents’ Night and tutored athletes with academic problems. The group hosted a school and visited another in an exchange program. Some of the Society members went on the May trip to New York City. Odessey of the Mind Front: F.Gascon, Mr. Mudrak. M.Demarest. Back: G.Liak. J.Dickens. B.Cabeca. J.Dickens. C.Larison. Mr. Mudrak’s unique club has all different kinds of students who love problem solving situations. The club works on projects for area competitions. O-M’ers have had to work on homemade balsa bridges that could withstand a 100 pound weight, engineer packaging that could protect an egg dropped from above, and the top secret Atlantis Project. 24 HON SOC ODESSEY
