The Band When you hear the clash of cymbals, the blast of a trumpet, and the tweet of the flute you know you are near the 0-M Band Room. Many long hours go into practicing for the concerts that the Band performs bi-annually. Doug Moss (composer of Fusion Funk) said, 'We work harder than most bands in the area.' Some of the Band members feel that it's a place where they can express themselves freely and become cultured in the finer aspects of life. Lee Titus re- plied, 'Jazz Band is my fine arts highlight of the day.' While Bob Kane feels it's a place where freedom of expression is abundant. One anonymous musician stated, 'We live and die for 5th Period!' In researching this story we found that the Band Room is one of the most popular and productive places in the school. 'The Band Room is an educational room. Most of you hear rock at home, so listen to something else to broaden your tastes said Mr Shewan. A Latin proverb says that 'Art has no enemies except igonorance.' The main goal of this ten year old club is to gain and spread knowledge of art and art appreciation. This year the Art Club and art students went on several field trips to museums, entered work in two art shows, and sponsored face painting and the 2nd Annual Fine Arts Banquet. For the past decade, the Art Club has taken a cultural arts trip to New York City. This year they sponsored a ten day trip to Europe during Easter vacation. The itinerary included artistic highlights of France, Italy, and a short stop in Switzerland None of this would be possible without the enthusiasm of the Art Club advisor, Mrs. Penny Titus.
