Boys and Girls State Last summer, the New York State American Legion Boys State was held at Siena College in Loudonville, NY right outside of Albany. Boys from all over New York State spent a week learning about and creating their own model state government. Attending from O-M were some of the senior guys: Mike Baker, Glenn Bleiler, Greg Chamberlain, Andy Michel, Aaron Teeter, and Mike Rentschler. During this week of simulated government the Men from O-M were vital links in the functioning of this government. Mike Baker was superintendent of highways, Glenn Bleiler an assemblyman, Greg Chamberlain was chief of fire prevention, Andy Michel served on the Federalist platform committee, Aaron Teeter was a superintendent of schools, and Mike Rentschler was chairman of committee funds. Not all was work, in their spare time they played baseball, softball, frisbee, and just rested their weary bodies. by Mike Baker GIRLS STATE In the Summer of 1984, Sherry Dickens and Erin Dowd attended Girls State held at SUNY Albany. Like the Boys, Erin and Sherry learned about NYS Government, parliamentary procedure, and met important politicians in the State Capitol. For the first time, the Boys and Girls worked together. Our O-M'ers had the distinct honor of meeting Governor Mario Cuomo! Everybody not only had a good time but they learned a lot about government and about meeting new people. BOYS GIRLS STATE 9

I have so many new experiences that I cannot have in Japan. Japan is a very beautiful country that I would like you to visit. I wish you much happiness. Seiko Noguchi Being in America has been a very valuable experience to me. Meeting the American way of life and the school has been very interesting, although the two countries don’t seem so far from each other in culture. I would like to thank the school for taking me as an Exchange Student this year. I wish the best in the future for all of the students here at OMCS. Jakob Nielsen Opholdet her i Amerika har vaeret en meget udbytterig oplevelse for mig. By evening, the sounds of laughter and music from the band— DENAMO. Scanning the room, you would have noticed the elegantly dressed couples and singles—which seemed to bring stag back into existence. Those honored on the court were as follows: Junior Court Kate Anagnost, Donny Gunning, Peggy Flail, Troy Monks, Shawn Durfey, Mike Myers Senior Court Amy Hall, Greg Lychalk, Gina Scriven, Chubber House, Laura Vandervliet, Dave Marsh Following the crowning by Mrs. Titus, the crowning by Mrs. Titus, the couples danced to the 1984 theme song The Closer You Get . Everyone always finds humor in watching the girls in their gowns Fast dance. Peggy Flatt and Amy Hall had little trouble in their Yt length dresses.
