I 1 The History of The Junior Class ' Since the Fallof 1956, there has been a certain species of student roaming these halls, 'lwho now call themselves Juniors. We have not been an entirely useless breed, but have loaned our members generously to the various athletic teams and to other activities. Our great- est contribution has been in raising the morale of the other classes in the annual track meet by walking away with the booby prize. Besides our dances, we have put on a play, Act Your Age, which played second fiddle to the weather. But it was a real comedy in every sense. Next year, when we don the name of senior, we shall prove what a superior species the Class of 1960 is. r-i O Sophomore Girls 'FIRST ROW: Cleft to Rightj L. Teeter, C. Gasize, M. Densoh, C. Doane, B. Nl 1 lf 1 5 J UI l 1.1, 1 Freshman Class VVhen we, the Freshman class, entered these halls, we had but two purposes in life-- to make the honor roll and to avoid the Seniors. At that time, we all automatically became the bewildered Freshmen. The Seniors began their ritual of bluffing us when school started and had us all properly terrified until after initiation, which incidently, was more bluff than brimstone. The Blakat Hop, our only venture at giving a dance thus far, was a complete success, especially since it added S170 to the treasury. Mrs. Covert, our advisor, helped us greatly. Naturally, we Freshmen were a valuable addition to the Junior Varsity Team. The Class of 62 has had quite a start. Now, just watch us grow! L... 55? 9 ,. ext Kam Aly' C eh! f-. KT! Mixed Chorus The Iunior and Senior Choirs of Odessa are experiencing a most active year with perfor- mances of many works from the pens of the great masters. The Christmas concert held on December 22 in the High School'Auditorium gave students and faculty their first opportunity to hear both choirs. The junior Choir presented works by Bach, Muller and Tchaikovsky. They are currently preparing works by Bach, Mozart, and Pohlmann. The Senior Choir presented works by Palestrina, Bach, Randall Thompson, and Handel. Featured soloist was Iudy Harrington. This same program was given at the Wesleyan Methodist Church as Horseheads, New York. The Senior Choir prepared a large work - a contata entitled the Stabat Mater by G. B. Pergolesi. This is a very moving work depicting the anguish of Mary as she stands at the foot of the Cross on which Christ is suffering. The Choir performed this work in several Churches in the area. The first such presentation was given on March 22 at the Methodist Church in Odessa. Soloists for this work are: Martin Matusko, Rick Lovell -- Tenors Terry Couch -- Bass ' Eunice Shreckengost, IoAnn Lewis -- Altos Judy Harrington, Elaine Slovik -- Sopranos 38 7th 81 8th Grade Chorus FIRST ROW: fLeft to Right! Guidance We have looked to Mr. Henry Heslop for guid- ance both in planning our courses of study and our choice of vocation after graduation. He has counseled with us individually in help- ing us prepare our programs and in furnishing in- formation about college and career opportunities. As we approach graduation time we come to re- alize more than before how much we depended upon Mr. Heslop for his explanation of curriculum needs and his patient handling of schedule revisions and personal problems. We appreciate also very much the direction he has given to Student Council, Student Court and Honor Society.
