We Leave a Record of — Occi 'ytytsU Uf, That fine September day when the door of higher education was opened to us was a happy one. As the Freshman Class, we elected the following officers: President. Fred Swad-er: Vice-President, June Smalley: Secretary, Janice Rodabaugh: Treasurer, Robert Bradley. We decided to hold a dance, and thus another school tradition took root. Other social activities included a hayride and a picnic held at Eldridge Park. The next September, the halls of O.C.S. were opened and we began our Sophomore year by electing the following officers: President. Patricia Lewis: Vice-President. Robert Pipher: Secretary, Emilie Kotmel: Treasurer, John Buckbee. Our Class dance, “The Sweetheart Shakedown,” was in observance of Valentine's Day. This year also came to a close with our picnic at Eldridge Park. As we bagan our Junior year, we realized that we were very near our goal of becoming Seniors. We elected the following officers: President. Ronald Salyer: Vice-Pres., Marjorie Jenkins; Secretary, Emilie Kotmel; Treasurer, Robert Pipher. During this, year we were saddened and shocked by the death of one of our classmates Marjorie States. In November we put on the play, “Seventeenth Summer,’ which was a thrilling success and loads of fun. We appreciated the help of our directors, Mr. Harvey, our English teacher, and Mr. Jenner, a practice teacher from Ithaca College. Mr. Jenner gave us many ideas, which helped our dramatic production. Another thrilling incident, which took place in November, was the selecting of our class rings which were received in February. Our Junior Prom, “Neptune’s Ball,” with Bob Pipher and Ruth Thomas as the ruling dignataries. was held in February. At the close of our Junior year, as is customary, we entertained the Seniors at the Junior-Senior Picnic, held at Enfield Glen. We had an exciting time and some of us nearly got lost walking through the glen and thought we would never reach the end of the trail. Then came that day for which we had so diligently worked — the day when we were Seniors! We could all feel the eyes of the underclassmen gaze at us. We elected the following officers, with only one change from our previous year: President. Fred Swader; Vice-President, Marjorie Jenkins: Secretary, Emilie Kotmel: Treasurer, Robert Swader. Then came Freshman initiation. The Frosh. who were conspicuously decorated, carried our books and did various errands. That riotous day ended with a dance in honor of our Freshmen. In October came magazine sales, headed by Emilie Kotmel and Alice Jeanne Clark, followed by stationery selling and the sale of Christmas cards and wrappings. By January the cast for “January Thaw” had been selected and was presented in April, which was enjoyed by the cast and audience. On April 14th forty happy Seniors enjoyed a trip to New York City. Most of us went by bus, but it was necessary for a few to travel by train. There, we saw the many sights and lights about which we had all heard so much. And very important to each of us and to every person owning one of these books is the very diligent staff under the direction of Miss Doris Wade, who made this book possible. Then came June — examinations and graduation, and for each of us a diploma! Now we were no longer Seniors, but Odessa Alumni ! ! ! ! ! 11
