PROPHECY Just then, we heard a tremendous rumble from the street and the building began to shake. Peering outside cautiously, we saw that it was only Ernie Randall, clearing his throat. Ernie has now gained fame as the champion hog caller of Tennessee. (Ernie always did have a rather carrying voice!) While still outside with Ernie, we noticed a strange spectacle approaching “Vernies.” It was Donny Riley, just completing the last lap of his trip in being the first man to go completely around the world on jet propelled roller skates. Sitting on his shoulders is Roy Williams. Roy couldn’t afford car fare for he is generously giving all his money buying seats for the standing army. Going back in, we find the last four members have arrived. Headed by our friend Johnny Sni-zek, they approach us. Johnny is now president of the Baby Sitter’s Union. With him are his two secretaries—Mart Swartout, Secretary in Charge of Wet Diapers; and Phyllis Townsend, Secretary in Charge of Burpers. Everone present and accounted for, we all sat down to have sodas with our old class advisor, Eddie Dolan. Bud Goold is the chief soda jerker in “Vernies,” famed for his “Goold’s Tootsie Fruitsie Fantasy.” Beth Hampton Naomi Harrington Shirley Mickel CLASS POEM In the village of Odessa, Stands our school, so dear. On each bright school morning We gladly gathered here. We learned the lessons taught us And found fond friends galore. Too soon we shall be leaving These friends forever more. But it won’t be forever For often we shall yearn To dwell again with memories And then we will return.
