lllllll Ullllllllllllll The musnc season got underway last fall wnth the performance of the marchnng band at every home football game Many dlfferent ormatuons were executed the members even dud several dance steps as they furnnshed theur own music The organnzatuon made a flne showing under the very able leadership of Janet Ogden as drum magorette The twlrlers were Darlene Paul Emuly Bergman Carol Herrlg Junuth Gunderson and Nancy Scott Honors were won at the annual Popcorn Day at Ida Grove and a trophy acknowledging that fact was guven to the school Tryouts for all state band and orchestra were held at Spencer and the following band members made the trnp to Des Mounes for the annual All State Musuc Festival Janet Ogden Mary Youngren Loss Landgraf Dale Lange and John Wutt an band and Georgua Hnx an orchestra The wnnter and sprung concert season opened with the annual Chrlstmas concert group from the concert band played for every name basketball game Twenty flve band members partncupated un the All County Band at Sac Cnty nn February lt constituted a part af the All County Musnc Festival A second oncert was glven early ln March Several selections were played uncludnng Raymond Overture Beethovens Andante Cantabule and a cornet truo composed of Gerald Hul deen Bull Teaqulst and Dale Lange played Majesty of the Colors The thlrd and funal concert was gnven by the band and choral groups on Aprnl 28 and Included contest num bers Flrst Movement of Symphony No 8 lUn fmushedl by Schubert and Sousa s Manhattan Beach March Davnd Schaefer played a tuba solo Solo Pomposo by Hayes PACE FOPTY Elfl-lT The Band Boosters purchased several :tems for the band durmg the year namely one new barltone horn two new concert snare drums and four new unuforms The Glee Clubs and Chorus made thenr flrst appearance an t'1e annual Chrlstmas con cert The Boys Glee Club presented two num bers although work was not begun wltw that group untnl after true football season closed All those nnterested un any of tne choral groups partlcupated ln thus concert the num ber beung cut later for contest use Four of t'1e number na nely Janice Turln Jean Stock Gerald Huldeen ond Wally Duffy sang an tie All State Chorus and twenty elght ap peared an the All County Chorus at Sac Cnty The mixed quartet advanced to the state contest wuth tweur presentatnon of Bless the Lord O My Soul and Parade of the Wood en Soldiers Between contests mumps and measles took thelr toll and much valuable practice time was lost The Gnrls trlo sang gurls sextet presented Llttle Boy Blue and Happy Peasant Gnrl and the boys quartet sang Sung Me a Chantey with a Yo Heave Ho' The latter groups recenved a ll ratlng at the prellmlnary state contest Nancy Rec tor Januce Turin Marulyn Hannel Wally Duffy Jerry Huldeen and Dale Lange also presented contest solos For contest Mixed Chorus thus year pre sented To Thee We Sung and Dudn t my Lord Dellver Danlel a rhythmlc spnrntual the gurls Glee Club sang Forest Hymn and Kathryn s Weddnng Day and the Boys Glee Club presented l se Been Lust nun and Who s That Tappnng at my Door I 1 v . .
