VOCAL MUSIC The vocal music department has aimed to give all students the opportunity to learn to appreciate and to love music. All grade students must attend a vocal class daily and other interests are provided for high school pupils-as the mixed chorus, girls' gree club, and boys' glee club. We have organized, also, small groups consist- ing of select voices. These groups include the girls' trio, girls' sextet, mixed quartet, and boys' quartet. And, yes, we have many fine soloists of whom we are extremely proud. Seniors who will be leaving this field of learning are Joan Einspahr, Alleen Lindquist, Mary Bengford, Arda Lee Flogstad, Beverly Witt, Jean Landgraf, Bob Moffitt, Bob Hansen, and Don Jackson. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC i The Marching band this year was a good sized group of small musif cians who did a wonderful job of marching and playing. It took some time for Mr. Allen to get all the little people started off on their left feet but after that was accomplished, the band was as good as it had ever been. The Marching band took two trips-one to Ida Grove, and one to Sac City. All who saw the Marching band perform complimented them. Jane Teaquist, the efficient drum major, was responsible for getting the band lined up properly in its various formations. The Majorettes, Jo Bye, Mary Bengford, and joan Wilken turned in performances which com' plemented that of the musicians. Marching band has been a wonderful experience for its entire personnel. Odebolt High School pupils are fortunf ate to be able to participate in such an activity. Concert band had its beginning the day Marching band was over. The band opened up the new band room in the annex. Several programs were given this year-a Christmas concert and a prefcontest concert. The band then started preparing for contest. Qur band moved up through the conf tests, one step at a time, until it finally received the highest award given in the state-a division I+ rating at Spencer on April 30. The small groups which also received division I rating at Spencer and went on to the State Contest at Perry, May 7, are: Woodwind Quartet, Woodwind Quintet, XVoodwind Trio, Bb Clarinet Quartet, Brass Quartet, and Drum Ensemble. Soloists who appeared at Perry are Don Jackson, Doyle Hansen, James Turner, Charles Krusenstjerna, john Witt, Kenneth Fertig. All people who appeared at State Contest in Perry received a II rat' ing, which is a good rating considering the competition of the AA and A schools. The school is rightfully proud of its fine Band.
