Quali- The Purple and Gold thinclads upset the dope bucket in the first outdoor meet of the year by winning the team trophy of the Holstein Relays. And to prove that this was no mere accident the same group brought home the team trophy from the Alta Relays. The scores of the leading contend- ers in the Holstein Relays were as follows: 'Odebolt, 28, Aurelia, 23, Milford, 20, Albert City, 205 and Holstein 14V2. In the Alta Relays the first live scored as follows: Odebolt, 47, Aurelia, 41, Holstein, 40, Alta, 38, and Albert City, 24. One of the highlights of the season was Odebolt's duel with Holstein for the supremacy of the Maple Valley Conference. In this meet, the Tro- jans came from behind in the last few events to defeat Holstein 102 to 92 11!12. Thus, the Trojans claimed the Conference track title, along with their football title. The Trojans also placed third in the Sac City Invita- tional meet. A medley relay team composed of Ken- neth Fertig, Tom Reynolds, Don Sorensen, and Bob Hansen was our only entry in the Sioux City Relays. It finished second. In the District meet at Cherokee, on May 6, the Tro- Fifty fying for the State Finals in the in- dividual events were Bob Hansen, 880g Don Konrady, 100 yard dashg Tom Reynolds, low hurdles, and George Hummel, football throw and discus. Four of Odebolt's five relay teams will be entered in the State Meet. Only the 880 relay team failed to qualify. The important factor in the success of the track team was the balance in the running events. This was es- pecially true in the relays. The re- lay teams placed in every meet they were entered, and the lowest position any one of the relay quartets finished was a fourth place for the 440 at the Sac City Invitational meet.
