GIRLS' BASKETBALL The Trojanettes did not en' joy a successful season as far as wins and losses were concerned but they played much better than in previous years. The competition this year was very stiff. Several games were lost by a small margin. No doubt everyone will agree that the girls played their best game against Nemaha December 21, here in the Qdebolt gym. Ruth Kessler was the leading scorer with 214 points for the season. With 5 letter winners return' ing to next year's squad, in ad' dition to several promising sophf omores and freshmen, the Trof janettes should provide plenty of opposition in 19494950 for the other teams in this territory. H. S. The season's record was 13 wins against 6 losses. According to pre-season dope, the Trojans were not expected to have much for the 1948-49 season. Three regulars were lost from last year's squad, leaving only Bob Hansen, center, and Jim Brower, forward, available for this season. Hansen and Brower were the Trojans' leading scorers. Don Jackson, playing his first year of varsity ball, came through in fine fashion as a center on offensive and a guard on defensive work. His fight and excellent ability were important factors in the Trojans' 13 victories. George Hummel, junior, was the defensive standout, and often came through in a pinch for offensive help. Hummel played a Trojan guard po- sition. Dick Gardner and Doug Boerner shared the Forty-six remaining forward spot with Gardner pulling out in front toward the end of the season. Only five seniors will be lost this year from the squad of 19. Outstanding reserves were James Barkley, Tom Reynolds, Doyle Hansen fwho left due to an injury in mid-seasonb, Bob Watts, Charles Krusensjerna, and Tom Bengford. This year's sophomores led by veteran Jim Brower, show promise for next year's season. They include: Dick Swanson, Don -Gunderson, Kenneth Fertig, Sidney Huff, Gordon Friday, and Jack Nuetzman. The Trojans lost only one home game this year and that was to the strong Alta five. Lettermen for this season were as follows: Seniors-Bob Hansen, Don Jackson, Doug Boerner, Bob Watts, Juniors-Dick Gardner, George Hum- mel, Jim Barkley, and Ronald Rex, the basketball manager.
