FOOTBALL - 1948 . The 1948 Trojans, although they lost four of their nine games, were able to bring home to Odebolt the Maple Valley Conference Champion- ship Trophy. due to injuries. However, the Trojan reserves, most- ly sophomores, came through in splendid fashion for this critical contest, and Odebolt not only won the trophy but also showed much promise for a good season in '49, title had to be decided in the annual grid feud between Odebolt and .Holstein in the last game of the season. Both teams entered the Armistice clash with perfect records. The ranks of the Trojans were depleted with injuries and because of this they were placed in the role of the underdog. Seven Odebolt lettermen were out of the Holstein fray CHEERLEADERS Joyce Thielke, Velma Paul, Barbara Boyd Forty-two This year's grid activities opened with a loop game at -Correctionville. The local eleven, fielding an inexperienced line and two new backfield mem- bers, had difficulty in getting started, and by half- time held only a 7 to 0 advantage. In the second half the Trojans settled down to football and the game ended 33 to 0. The Purple and Gold eleven ran into tougher competition in their opening home game against Kingsley, and had to be content with a 19 to 7 win. They won their third straight conference game by downing Moville 39 to 13. Odebolt jumped to a 33-0 first half time lead in this tilt and coasted through on their reserve strength in the last half. The Trojans lost their first game of the season when they suffered a 13 to 0 defeat at the hands of the Alta Cyclones. Alta, with a large, ex- perienced team, had to go out all the way for the victory. The following Friday the Trojans ran up against a tough Manilla eleven and lost their first Homecoming game in five years when the visitors pushed across a touchdown in the last few minutes to win 13 to 7. Sac City, enjoying one of their best grid sea- sons in years, tried to pour it on the Trojans to
