Queen Joan and King Mitch were joined by their attendants; Scott and Sandy, Sheila and Dave, Carolyn and Jim, and Pat and Daryl. The homecoming festivities began with Tues- day as hat and gum day. Wednesday was the 'tps day, Thrusday was dress-up day, and Friday was purple and gold day. Thursday night was skit night highlighted by the crowning of the royalty. Skits were performed by various classes and groups, and a pyramid contest was held and won by the nineth grade class. After the ceremonies were completed at the gym, the group traveled down to the bon-fire which was lead by the cheerleaders and featured the burning of the Wildcat. Friday afternoon the student body gathered at the gym for a pep meeting. Students followed the band and royalty down-town for the announce- ment of the window winners (9th grade won 1st place), and the recognition of the senior football players. The football game was played on the local field against Woodbury Central. The Trojans fell short on the scoreboard side but played a fine game in spite of the score. The game was followed by the dance with mu- sic provided by Genocide . The class of '30 was honored following the game at the school. « JL fovth.ill Boys ruli CWlITy . CuEBOLT - - MUSIC MAN------ Harold Hill is a traveling salesman who cannot read music or play any instrument, but he is the hottest instrumental salesman traveling the Mid-West in 1912. Professor Hill arrives in River City, Iowa, on the Rock Island and during his one week stay convinces the towns- people that they need a big boy's band. His motives are dishonest but, while fooling his customers, he changes a dull town into a singing and dancing community. He has no difficulty in selling them the instruments and fancy uniforms for the band, but, when a disbeliever ques- tions his method of teaching music, Harold is not too suc- cessful in selling what he calls the think system of learn- ing music. Harold has completely charmed all the ladies, who have complete faith in him. However, this naive faith, especially that of the beautiful town librarian, Marian, subtly changes him from a scheming con-man into a reliable citizen. The swing choir partici- pated in two swing choir festivals at Pocahontas and the Univ. of South Dakota. Although they did not bring home a trophy, they did return with some high ratings and constructive criticisms. The groups performances also included the guest concert at Schaller, the Fine Arts Festival, and the final Swing Show in May. The Odebolt-Arthur Mixed Cho- rus went through a building year in 1979-80. The mixed chorus grew in numbers and enthusiasm to include 43 members. The chorus made its first appearance in the fall with the production of the The Music Man . The holiday season perfor- mances included the Christmas con- cert by the mixed chorus and girls' glee. This concert was also taped and aired several times by KDSN. The next appearance of the mixed cho- rus, girls' glee, and swing choir was the Fine Arts Festival held on a Sun- day afternoon in February. The groups also performed their num- bers at a guest concert at SChaller. Then spring came and the music department became occupied with hosting the state small group con- test. ORGANIZATIONS COUNCIL BUYS NEW STEREO The student council completed many fun and constructive projects this year. They painted the student lounge in an effort to liven it up a little. The old scenes on the walls were replaced by cartoon scenes, a purple and gold Trojan head, a sunset scene, and some modern art. The old stereo was replaced by a new 8 track, cassette, and AM-FM radio. The student council and the FFA combined the sweetheart dance and the sno-ball dance into one evening in an effort to get a bigger crowd. Many students and faculty enjoyed the evening of dancing on Dec. 15. The council were also responsible for plan- ning and organizing the homecoming activi- ties. The group concluded their services to the community by helping collect pop cans from the streets and ditches in the spring. fr Henkenius, D L. Ox£mfol£' P. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY denz, M. They started off last summer by putting up a display at the Iowa State Fair and also participated in several live- stock judging contests during the late summer and fall. Much of the boys time was taken up by the chapter farm and the annual fruit sales which were as successful as always. Other activities of the chapter included sending several members to the state ana national FFA conventions, decorating the float for the Homecoming candi- dates, co-sponsoring the Sno-Ball dance, and participating in Na- tional FFA Week. The year was drawn to a suc- cessful conclusion by the an- nual parent-member ban- quet held on April 24. Although the yearbook staff was small and relatively inexperi- enced, they worked very hard this past year and put a lot of effort into creating an annual which everyone at OA could treasure in years to come. They strove to incorporate the best features of previous yearbooks with imaginative new ideas of their own. The theme the staff chose was vehicles and roads along with the motto, Speeding into the 80's. They tried to unify the an- nual and carry this theme throughout by drawing a differ- ent road sign on each division page and using different types of roads in the various sections. They were also able to obtain several unique features which they wre very proud of and which hopefully, everyone will appreciate. These included 8 pages of blue spot color photo- graphs which was a first in the history of the yearbook. YEARBOOK STAFF Co-Editors: Michelle Cordes and Donna Mildenstein. When we accepted the position of co-editors of the 1979- BO yearbook over a year ago, we had no idea of all the long hours, hard work, and careful planning it took. And although we knew almost nothing about the mechanics of putting together a yearbook, we were eager and full of many new ideas. During the past months, however, we've slowly learned the steps and processes (mainly through trial and error) and have made many mistakes along the way. We've always had fun and never regretted our decision, though, and would never give up the valuable lessons we've learned in cooperation, responsibility, dependability, and working with others. We sincerely hope you enjoy reading and owning this memory book as much as we enjoyed making it. It could never have been accomplished without the work and dedi- cation of our great advisor, Mr. Wiese. Co-Editors Michelle and Donna.
