While this provides humor an-d fast-paced action, there's an important meaning and imperative reason for it all. Dad has a heart condition which he's keeping a secret from the family. That's why he's doing his best to make his family efficient and get them as far along through school as possible The three older girls don't understand why Dad regards their interest in dates as a waste of time, nor does Dad understand high school girls, When Dad is about to leave for Europe, he becomes aware of how much Anne has grown up.
