We have adjusted to wading through mud, finding the doorway barred by construct- ion work, and detouring around the buil-ding to get in or out. Frequently we have been spared a recitation period because of a pneumatic drill which threatened to come through the floor-- but never did. We have learned to live with noises, vibrations, dust covering everything, a-nd such minor inconveniences. All of them, however, have been overshadowed by the pleasure we have had in watching a dream come true. Every accomplishment was first a dream, an idea, or a goal. The architect must first envision his building before he draws his plans and blueprints, The mason follows a plan in laying his brick and tile to make an acceptable part of the completed structure, As we seniors -of l958 approach our high sch-ool graduation, we realize that we, too, are architects, for our lives must have a definite plan if we are to make them worthwhile, lt has been an experience to live through the planning stage of our school reorganizati-on and our greatly enlarged building As we go forward to build our dreams, our ideals, and our goals, may we profit from the truths so graphically present- ed, and shape our lives to conform to a master plan. While this provides humor an-d fast-paced action, there's an important meaning and imperative reason for it all. Dad has a heart condition which he's keeping a secret from the family. That's why he's doing his best to make his family efficient and get them as far along through school as possible The three older girls don't understand why Dad regards their interest in dates as a waste of time, nor does Dad understand high school girls, When Dad is about to leave for Europe, he becomes aware of how much Anne has grown up. At the some time, Anne realizes the truth about Dad. Their understanding then becomes complete. Annie, a faded, fluttery woman hos not lost her dream of the stage, Mattie, a sober, unimaginative soul with a toneless voice, dreams -of being a concert pianist, Hallie, loud, robust, full of energy, will take dancing, Bessie, dignified and the sole ad- mirer of her own voice, could have been singin' at the Met. Annie proposes that they entertain themselves while they ea-t their midnight snack and rest from their scrubbing the stage., This is their opportunity to live their dreams of performing. So Mattie, Janette Youngren, plays a piano number, Bessie, Nancy Currie, sings, Annie, Sandra Higby, gives a melodramatic reading, a-nd Hallie, Bonnie Raasch, does a ballet. Following a disagreement, all four perform simultaneously until the factory whistle breaks their spell and reminds them of their unfinished work, Though they've never been famous nor had the glory they've dreamed of, they're prou-d to be Ladies of the Mopping Line. -sixty-five-- Top Row lLeft to Rightl: Bill Carlson, Richard Rohlf, Ronald Hogue, Bill Stock, Dennis Thevenot, Elwood Anderson. The Sac City, Ida Grove, and Holstein games were cancelled. Coach lsaak's athletes managed to chalk up a l-5 win-loss record. On August 24, a disappointing number of only 25 boys reported for practice, realizing that they would have their work cut out for them. Most of their opponents were favorites in their respective conferences, while the Trojans were below par with only four lettermen returning. The first game was played at Wall Lake in a rain storm. After holding Wall Lake scoreless the first quarter, the boys could not continue to hold off the Comets and eventually dropped the contest, 35 to O. The Trojans were not able to get their new single wing offense moving which hindered their chances of winning. One week later the Trojans encountered another opponent and another rain storm at Kingsley. Again, both teams were held scoreless the first quarter, but Kingsley finally got their offense moving and pounded out a 32 to O victory. At Moville the boys seemed to be throttled by a good Moville team until the last quarter. Finally, a spark was ignited in the Trojan's offensive machine and the locals scored 20 points in the fourth quarter after trailing 40 to O. Though beaten 46 to 20, the Odebolt gridders finally crossed the goal line which gave them added enthusiasm. The next game was played at the new athletic field in Odebolt on Homecoming. The Trojans tasted victory for the first time by shutting out Correctionville, I9 to O. The Trojans again appeared on their new home field for their next gameg however, a fine Onawa aggre- gation made it known immediately that they fl little intention of allowing Odebolt to even come' e to defeating them. From the first to the last mi we our gridders had little opportunity to get into the game. The final score ended in another shutout, 39 to 0. Traveling to Manilla for what proved to be the last game of the season, the Trojans fcund themselves out- classed again and were on the short end of the score, 4l to 6. The Odebolt team punched across a touchdown the first quarter. Although the Trojans were definitely outclassed and outmanned in most games, 2l boys played eight or more quarters which should give some of the younger players a good chance to do better next year. Fourteen boys received their letters. Seven of these will be back next year to try to improve their win-loss record for l958. Ron Hogue and Bob.Taphorn were elected the most valuable players for the l957 season. --seventy-three- N RICHARD THAYER RALPH COWLHAM BILL STOCK SENIOR, END 150 lbs. SENIOR, RIGHT HALF BACK 137 lbs. The won-lost record was not too impressive being 9 and l2. The Troianettes placed fourth in the county tournament losing to Lake View in the consolation game 40 to 27. odeboh. With prospects of a strong freshmen and sopho- more group of girls moving up next season we are look- ing forward to a good season. We will have more height on both ends of the court to provide for better rebound- ing. Since we lose only one Senior on the squad, and the others gained much experience, the outlook for the future is bright if some of our Sophomares and Fresh- men keep progressing as they have been. The team this year finished third in the Sac County Tournament and third in the Maple Valley Conference. The team's offensive average was 49.5 and the defensive average was 55.3 points per game. Our Freshmen and Sophomore Squad this year played some outstanding basketball under the direction of Mr. Isaak. They defeated the overwhelming favorite, Moville, by two points, to take the championship for the first time in eight years. The season was a great credit to the fellows on the squad. Although we had only twenty- eight boys out for track, they were conscien- tious workers with a very good attitude. Pros- pects for next season should be bright with only three seniors, Arlen Luitjens, Richard Thayer, and Darrell Herrig, being lost through graduation. Our pefcrmances in the field events should be considerably fimproved next season with our power being concentrated in the mid- dle distances. There were some outstanding individuals and performances throughout the season. The Trojans scored most of their points from the f-ollowing fellows: Arlen Luitjens in the da-shes and relays, Richard Thayer in the hurdles and relays, Darrell Herrig in the relays, John Bauer in the relays, Richard Lange and Bob Miller in the middle distances.: Bob Rex, Bill Stock, and Roger Peters in the middle distances and relays, and Dennis Thevenot in the relays. Two records were broken this season, the most spectacular one being in the medlay re- lay. Bill Stock, Darrell Herrig, Arlen Luitjens, and Bob Rex ran the medley in a very good time of 31482. Bill Stock set a record in the football throw with a distance of l87' 2M . Other outstanding performances of the season were: Richard Lange-2108.6 half mile, 54.7 quarter mile. But our yearbook adviser got us on our way. It was with her time, endless patience, and constant guidance that our yearbook took shape. Our special thanks to Miss Bruce. What would the book be with just letters on its pages! This is where Mr. Kermit Buntrock entered our picture-or shall we say our pictures. He packed up his lights, action, and cam- eras, traveled to OAHS, a-nd sh-ot our individual and group pictures, His efforts put our layout committee into action. Our attractive title pages were printed by Mrs. Erwin Krahenbuhl. We are grateful for her work which adds definite distinction to our production. So often the teachers excused their classes for pictures and special events. ,The students were willing to help with their snaps a-nd participation in the extra curricular activities which have a big place in our book. Many thanks for their cooperation. The hard-working staff proved themselves invaluable. At the some time we all learned that cooperation is the key to the success of such at project. At last we had things organized. Now the Odebolt Chron- icle did its part in putting things together from the rough copy to the binding, This was a long awaited grand finale. Through the combined efforts of all these indespensable people and the generosity of the Odebolt and Arthur business men, we have completed our '58 yearbook, Our sincere thanks to everyone. -one hundred three- THE TROJAN STAFF CO-EDITORS TYPISTS gffffglg 3355 A VE T'5'NG lllflfil, lliilffen Darrell Buehler Bmmle RGOSCB Ralph Cowlham R ld susmess MANAGER Om Hogue y PHOTOGRAPHY Gencvleve Raas:h Ethel Godbersen SALES CARNIVAL Darrell Buehler E h I G db LAY-OUT EDITORS D201 Jghnfgien P69 Sfmifhsen Donold Cqwlhom FACULTY Aovlsen Beverly Johnson Sandro Hlgby Jane Leonard Miss Rosmcr Bruce Back Row: Darrell Buehler, Don Cowlham, Dean Johnson, Ralph Cowlham.
